Hey, it's issue 87 of The Word!

Paul Vincent's picture

Well there's a great surprise for Easter weekend - the new issue of The Word landing on the doormat. Love the cover picture of Peel - don't ever go back to boring ol' photos for your cover images. May I be the first to spot your packaging blunder for the cover CD? Inside the gatefold, I was bemused to read the text:

"Mixmag loves... Crookers. Wub-heavy hip-house? Electro-dub stomp? Dancehall wonk-step?..." ...and so forth. Clearly your layouts for the cover CD got mixed up with your chums at Mixmag. Does this mean Mixmag readers will be equally baffled to read Andrew Harrison burbling on about The Avett Brothers and Black Francis, inside their gatefolds?

Mind you, it's got me curious about Mixmag, now. Might try a copy. Hey, this wasn't some "deliberate mistake" cross-marketing ploy, was it?

I nearly set fire to my shirt.

It's a new dawn,
It's a new day,
It's a new Word,
It's the one for May.

I'm staying in now, I may be some time.

Nothing here

Just a bank statement and postal vote thing for May 6th.

Not optimistic

Can't see us getting any post today in my part of Norn Iron. But gives me more anticipation time.

Surprisingly the post arrived

Unsurprisingly no mag, but a gas bill!

Got the mag but the CD is missing.

Cuppa tea, a hot cross bun & the new Word. Fantastic start to the day. Only problem is that the CD is missing from mine.

Sent me scurrying off to find Chris Morris'

Club News

in which a Radio 4-style announcer gives it the full Westwood, bigging up DJ Amyl Rightmate and The Fabattoir as he offers "some truly hexagonal dope on this weekend at the bop sheds and flash tunnels". Rrrrespect!

but sadly no longer on YouTube.

Hope this somewhat OT discovery amuses:

Club News is excellent

"Keith Flint rushed to hospital after betting that he could eat sodium.... at The Salty Gob in Leeds entrance is free if you have a haircut.."

No sign of the new issue yet for me.

Fat chance

I have a nocturnal postman so if I do get mine, it will be slipped through the letterbox sometime after dark.

wifey brought it to me in bed this morning

Saying, 'I've got something that's gonna make you very happy.' I initially misunderstood her and said, 'Well I've got something that's gonna make YOU very happy too,' in my best Sid James. She chucks the mag on the bed and says,'Brush your teeth first.'

CD Mix-Up

Apologies from all of us, but the mistake is the printer's - they received the correct files, but somehow used the Mixmag text on the Word CD and vice versa. It has only affected the subscriber version of the CD.

If there's a silver lining, consider yourselves the owners of some kind of rare, limited edition CD.

Typo, page 66

'TEVOR HORN' ??
Or is it an ironic joke that I've missed? Haven't read the article yet.

Better typo

Love the sleevenotes for 'Crookers' from Mixmag printed on the left hand leg of the free CD. Better than the Ukrainian klezmer songwriter influenced by the Mighty Lemon Drops that we normally get there.....are you listening Hepworth and Ellen?

Ellen Earth

Another interesting read - postie did the deed Saturday morning, history by teatime,
particularly enjoyed Eamonn Forde on his early years.
One sizeable downer since the revamp, Ellen's two-page self indulgence turns my stomach. Name dropping for England, thrilling us with tales of his capitalcentric schmoozing.....oh, and he likes Emma Thompson now, fascinating, cutting edge stuff!
Luckily this garbage is located handily at the front end, so there is always better to come.

Thumbs up

The delivery managed to reach Glasgow as well. Fantastic cover - best so far.

Now, how much time can I carve out tomorrow to enjoy the long articles - looking forward to the Peel piece having already read and agreed with Andrew Harrison on 6 Music.
