Hey, I'm back here! Let's not forget the drummer.
I have chosen Keith Moon (Stop heckling at the back, it wasn't going to be Rick Buckler was it?). I am biased as The Who are my favourite band bar none.
This is 'Summertime Blues' from the Monterey Pop Festival.
Keith Moon is actually more interesting to watch than the rest of the band. I don't think that would be true for any other band in history.
Moon appears to be all over the shop, drifts out and then comes back in and the song never loses it's way.
And here's 'Animal' from The Muppets. Spot the difference.

Although I have just realised there is a post
about drummers and it's first up on the home page...
Must pay attention...must pay attention....must pay attention....
Just a roll, just a roll
Just a roll on the drum. Tried to find an exemplary clip of the tidiest drummer about, the polar opposite of the wardrobe falling downstairs stylings, enjoyable as they are, of Moon et al. Sounds simple but try duplicating the precision. Anyhow, couldn't find my favourite example* of his schtick (ho, ho) but here is a lovely old clip of some very very young men, Nicol and Thompson looking every second of 38 years younger than today.
*It'll be me, Live Cliff Richard cover from the Richard and Linda Thompson Band as on Guitar/vocal and Live at Drury Lane.
Moon
yes. Also worthy of honourable menshes are
Ringo ( A Day In the Life, Something, that opening roll into She Loves You )
Charlie ( that cowbell, and the way he holds his sticks )
Bill Bruford ( the classic Yes stuff but especially Heart of the Sunrise off Fragile ).
Buddy Rich ( watch those sticks fly- and he hates it if he misses ).
I'm sure I've overlooked a few though......
why the Buckler jibe though?
He was a fine drummer.
