Fangie's picture

Just saying thanks for the Jackie Leven secreted away inside this month's issue. This is above and beyond the call of duty.

My favourite modern pop star on the cover of my favourite magazine - thanks Word!

Seconded.

Just wish Cooking Vinyl had done this a while back; maybe JL himself didn't want to do it? All the same, I hope they shift shedloads of his CDs, he deserves to be much more widely appreciated.

Jackie Leven, Heroes Can Be Any Size

Thanks to all at The Word, especially Paul Du Noyer for his wonderfull and empathic tribute to Jackie in the new issue.

For those of you who do not know Jackie`s music listen to the CD given with the new issue and be enthralled. You can do worse than investigate further.

Jackie Leven - gone but never forgotten.

Yes

We had to get permission from the label because they own the copyright, but it's available for download now: http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/content/now-hear-cover-archive

Brilliant CD

Thank you so very much for giving us this amazing CD. I believe this is the first ever Jackie Leven compilation. It would be great to get a boxed set one day.

Anyone new to Jackie's beautiful music and wondering which CD to buy could do a lot worse than choose Forbidden Songs Of The Dying West.

Leven tribute

Paul Du Noyers tribute was heartfelt and brilliant. I had the impression it was written just for me which is a great feat for any journalist to achieve. I particularly empathised with Deborah Greenwoods comments that the fans really wanted the warts and all 'damaged' Jackie and I can relate a story that underlines that. I saw Jackie play the Mac centre in Birmingham around 10 years ago and during the interval I got chatting to him at the bar. I asked if he could play his song wrapped up in blue in the second half. As the second half got underway he announce 'some cunt in the audience asked for this song, not sure if I can remember the words but here goes'. Far from being affronted it was entirely in line with my expectations.
Over the years I became a big fan and his was the only fan club I ever joined. His Haunted valley colums were always erudite, funny and warm and I would love someone to collect them together in book form as he had a way with prose that compares with the best writers around.
I have a number of fan club only releases with some pretty interesting stuff on them. If anyone interested I am happy to share.
