Here's a thing....
Does anybody have any idea what David Bowie is up to these days? 5 Years since "Reality", and not even a rumour (not that I'm aware of anyway) of any new material.
I won't diss the man for not coming up with any new stuff (given that silence is better than rubbish: see Bowie's 1982 to 1995 output), but it's a strange thought that "Bring me the Disco King" may be the last new song we hear from the great man. Nice one to end on, mind you.
So, come on Word types, who has the lowdown on Mr. Bowie?

Tony Visconti is "on standby"...
... or at least that's what Visconti was saying around the time of the release of Morrissey's last album a few years back, but nothing heard since, other than that iTunes live EP with Arcade Fire.
At this point I'd settle for the release of "Toy" (or "Toys"), his "Pin-Ups" style tribute, er, to himself i.e. re-recordings of his mid-60's songs. I believe it was finished & ready to release, but The Dame pulled it at the last minute... any bootlegs anywhere?
I don't think...
that he's been in the best of health has he?
Yes...
...one of my musical heroes, would love a new album as 'Reality' isn't my favourite ('Bring Me The Disco King' is indeed great though) but if not I'd very happily settle for a vaults-clearing release.
He appeared on that Scarlett Johansson album of Tom Waits covers, did a cameo at Dave Gilmour's Royal Albert Hall shows singing 'Arnold Layne' and 'Comfortably Numb'...that's about all I know about his recent activities!
Thanks
...for warning me about the Dame singing "Arnold Layne" - the thought bring me out in hives. I shall avoid the DG concert like the plague.
available
on iTunes...
Re: 'Toy(s)'
His re-recordings of You've Got a Habit of Leaving and Baby Loves That Way were released as b-sides to his Everyone Says Hi single a few years back.
One of the reasons I like music, is our Dave
but I wouldn't be troubled if he never released another (newly recorded)note. Sorry, but he should enjoy his semi-retirement, the odd guest appearance or sax solo on a mate's new album, popping up at an award show or two. Keep releasing stuff like "Live in Santa Monica '72" by all means though.
Ever since his laughable "Lord's prayer" at the Freddie concert, he's been "dead to me" as Tony Soprano would say.
Sabbatical
I've just seen him working in Waitrose in Wolverhampton. Readers will be pleased to know he's gone back to the Ziggy look crica Aladdin Sane.
Phew...
...the Thin White Duke look just wouldn't cut it in a shopping centre!
A Touch of Acting too
He was in the excellent "The Prestige".
