Here Comes The Wedding Thread

David Wright's picture

I'm attending my first wedding in nearly 10 years next Saturday and look forward to drinking Pimms and catching up with old friends and having a good old knees up. A wedding compilation seems to be the order of the day; with some songs old, some songs new and perhaps a few blue. I would be grateful to hear your suggestions, so far I have:

1) White Wedding-Billy Idol
2) Prairie Wedding-Mark Knopfler
3) Wedding Vows In Vegas-Was (Not Was)
4) Start Again- Teenage Fanclub

And (touch wood)if things don't go to plan, Elbow's Grounds For Divorce is waiting in my CD shelf.

got to have

Gram Parsons' $1000 Wedding.

When I was getting married, I asked one of my mates what he thought would make a good choice for the first song to dance with the new wife. He thought about it for a minute and then replied "Run To The Hills" by the Maiden.

It turns out he was absolutely right.

10,000 Maniacs

"My Sister Rose". Randy Newman's "A Wedding in Cherokee County" also springs to mind. Not sure it strikes the right tone though!

"I Knew The Bride (When She Used To Rock 'n' Roll)" - Nick Lowe

I think I prefer the Dave Edmunds version, but here's the original, with video:

Schoolboy Error

Not a good idea to use this, if you did indeed 'know' the bride

1
Freddie Owen | 29 July 2010 - 8:28pm

No, no...

It'll give the bride an incentive to ...er... rock 'n' roll again...

If I ever get married,

I am having this played. Possibly for the first dance.

"You Never Can Tell" - Chuck Berry

The inspiration for "I Knew The Bride" (see above). Chuck Berry telling a story in the manner of Noel Coward:
