Help Wanted: MP4 Video Editor
Posted by Riccardo Gargiulo on 20 December 2010 - 9:21pm.
Wondering if the Massive Hive-Mind could help me out.
I have a Nokia N8 phone which records rather decent HD quality video in a MP4 format. It does have a rather nifty edit app on it but it's a bit fiddly for someone with my massive fingers to use.
What I was after was a simple video editing program what will allow me to just crop an existing file and save it in the same format without any loss of quality. So far all the free downloads I've found either don't save as MP4 or if they do degrade the quality from HD to SD.
For reference I'm using a PC with Windows 7. A freebie would be nice but I'll buy something if I must.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated

won't
movie maker edit it for you ?
Tried Movie Maker
However I don't seem to be able save it as just an MP4 file - it converts it to WMV at a reduced quality.
Try this
MPEG Streamclip
http://www.squared5.com/
Free, opens and simply edits almost any video format. I've used it and it is pretty good. Simple, but works.
MPEG Streamclip
Indispensable. I use it on the Mac to convert anything video, into, well, pretty much anything video, particularly when there's a need to convert quality video into a crappy legacy PC format. .Mov, .mp4, .avi, .mpg. Eats them all up. Probably the most useful bit of free software I've ever used.
By Jove I think you've cracked it
Thanks Twangothan
downloaded it and it looks the part - will have a proper play when I get home tonight.
Pleasure old boy
Any time.
