Help us hype "The Best Of Now Hear This 2008"
We're starting to think about our annual "Best of Now Hear This" CD and once more we'd appreciate your help in pointing out the artists that have been on the CD and left an impression on you. We've put together a list of the people who've been featured on our CDs so far. Please have a scan down the list and indicate any you've been particularly impressed by and would like to hear more from. And remember, it's your vote that counts.

The sound of old Islington
That's Mark Ellen playing the podcast theme tune isn't it? How about getting him to play the full version for the CD? Or is that it, a little flourish specially composed for the purpose?
Could be a Christmas hit.
Mr Ellen told me...
at Cornbury that it is a snippet from Alice's Restaurant. I'd love to hear some Love Trousers on the Word CD but suspect modesty would get in the way. In which case, how about the Family Mahone?
Modesty won't get in the way
But I might.
Submission guidelines???
How many are we allowed to vote for? I just went down the list and ticked a dozen or so, but when I clicked 'submit' I got an error message telling me that I'd selected the maximum number of entries and that I should check the submission guidelines. Which aren't immediately apparent.
I've not set a limit
And I've just successfully submitted an entry with about three dozen artists selected. Very strange - do you have another browser you can try?
I've been playing Epic 45 to death...
... Stars in Spring sticks out. Was that this year? One of the best tunes I've heard in yonks
Jackson Browne?
When was that then?
Errr...
I think you've spotted something from the next CD. I may have to edit that list by a track or 15.
I wouldn't bother
You'll only have to put them all back.
Multiple voting
I've voted for my favourites of the year, but I'd like to submit an extra three votes for Monade. I think Étoile is my favourite ever song to be featured on a NHT CD.
Submission guidelines revisited
Hi Fraser
I tried again in Firefox (I used Safari the first time), but with the same result. I ticked exactly 20 boxes this time.
Well...
That's the error message you should get if you try and submit your votes more than once. As I can see you haven't done that, and the error is triggered your IP address showing up again, is it possible that someone else who frequents the site shares the same IP? If not, it sounds there's a firewall issue somewhere between us. It's definitely nothing to do with the number of artists you selected.
Too Early
Just submitted my preferences, the recent Aimee Mann track on last months is my favourite of the year so far. Know its too early to be talkin of Christmas, but I hope there will be one Christmas related track on the December issue.
Brent Cash
My favourite this year by far. There are more orgasmic chord changes in Diggin' The Fault Line than in any song since Crowded House's Pineapple Head.
Next is Cathy Davey - it'd be a great shame if such an idiosyncratic and engaging performer got lost in the flood of singer/songwriter landfill.
Best of the year CD?!
Mindful of the recent and not so recent blogs about the relative worth (or otherwise) of the CD, uncertain of the added value of a "repeat":yes, yes, I know the casual browser may well buy more end of year retrospective mags than at the rest of the year, but us week in week out guys may just prefer not to have a disc of ones what we prepared earlier. Unless, of course, the "best of year" is an extra??
Just a thought.
This CD
Won't feature any tracks that have appeared on previous CDs. It's about the artists that Word readers (as a collective) have chosen to hear more from.
Good show!
thanks, Fraser.
I really like the new one
especially that Archangel track - How To Lose Your Best Friend, but also Sigur Ros (obviously) and Sam Beeton.
M83
The M83 song (Graveyard Girl) of a few issues back was easily my most played track; I think it was mis-titled on the CD.
As for Sigur Ros, why choose the least representative track on the CD? It makes no sense at all.
On the cd
Hi,
New subscriber here!
I've been very impressed with what I've heard from The Felice Brothers so far.
Felicitations.
Don't go reading no reviews then, South, unless it's Steve Turners on 7digital "readers choice" of a few weeks back. They are very good, aren't they? Heres the best of several shambolically wondrous clips of their stand out track.
Felice Brothers
Was so taken with their latest cd that I went and bought the first one. Heres a tip for you - play track 7 - the drug song called Rockerfeller or something like that (havent got disc in front of me) and I defy you not to put it back to the beginning and play it again it's that good.
There is also a great track about doggy style sex - I think the second track!!
They are my new heroes.
Ballad Of Lou The Welterweight...
... is the track you're thinking of:
"powder your nose
pull off your panty hose
let me love you from..."
I better stop there!
