Entertainment For Lively Minds
Hello and a FREE Americana CD...
Morning all.
LB here. Regular podcast listener, occasional reader and first time blog-botherer.
I was recently wading through google trying to find artwork for the NME Pocket Jukebox CD (a freebie given away, back in the day), when I stumbled upon:
http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/content/what-is-the-best-free-cd-given-awa...
A few years ago I used to have a fanzine called Luke, and we gave away a pretty good Americana CD called Cool Hands & Hot Heads. We got several favourable reviews; Stewart Lee in The Sunday Times and Sylvie Simmons in Mojo were both kind and we shifted quite a few copies.
Unfortunately I was a little over-enthusiastic when in came to the pressing, and I’ve still got a couple hundred left. I guess the collection goes back to about 1999 / 2000 and features artists like Tombstone Trailerpark, NoahJohn, Songs: Ohia, etc. Twenty tracks in total.
If anyone would like a copy (just the CD + artwork – not the zine) let me know through the usual channels and I’ll give you an address to send me a stamped addressed envelope.

Songs: Ohia
Just found this on YouTube. This is the Songs: Ohia track that's on the CD:
Hot Black Silk
Love your moniker
Mr B :-)
Leicester Bangs
It's the name of our latest zine. I'm not sure if we're allowed to put external links up, but if you google "leicester bangs" it appears somewhere near the top.
You'd be surprised at the amount of people I have to explain it to.
Have artwork will send
Did you find the artwork you were looking for? If not I should be able to help you.
Artwork
Sorry, a misunderstanding. I've got LOTS of copies of the CD AND the artwork.
I'm just trying to find a home for some of them.
NME Pocket Jukebox Artwork
Sorry, you were referring to the NME Pocket Jukebox artwork - I found it, thanks.
NME cassettes
...on the subject of which, can I ask, really nicely and in a grovelling kind of way, if you're likely to restart the NME cassette archive project? :-)
NME Cassette Archive Project
I don't think that was us...
No but it was John W :-)
and can I just say what a fine, valuable project it is, and how much benefit it would bring to society to have a complete NME cassette archive in one place.
(That grovelling enough John? ;-))
Grovelling is good!
Yes I am. I've been reconsidering. I think what I'll do is to do a load, upload them somewhere and sit back. I imagine that a few more will appear just after christmas.
In the meanwhile
There are "recompilations" of the old soul and R&B NME cassettes, including Pocket Jukebox, on my 8tracks page http://8tracks.com/magneticfields

Thanks for Reminding Me, Magnetic Fields
It's about time I revisited you pages.
Looks good, one question though.
Is this a 'stream-only' site? I couldn't see how to download them for iPodular listening. Thanks
Streaming Only
I'm afraid.
What a great site...
The Clash covers set hangs together very nicely:

Leicester Bangs
You get an arrow for the name - made me snigger out loud :-)
Cool Hands & Hot Heads
Thanks to everyone who responded. CDs on their way as soon as the Post Office get round to delivering your SAEs.
If anyone else is interested, there's plenty more left, and I'm here all day.
