Headphones

Pat Carty's picture

I need new headphones for my ipod, any recommendations?

0

dr dre's beats

Look nice... Nice price too though. Are you looking for earwigs or full ear contact?

I have a pair

They look great, but the sound is at the woolly end of the spectrum.

Also got the Dr Dre's

And I have to disagree with Fraser - the sound is really good.

in ear I suppose

I'm not arsed with the "huge cans" hipster look

Team them with a nice tracky

and you'd look like a footballer getting off the team bus.

Yes

If you need new headphones, I recommend you buy some.

thanks Joe

fair play

Apologies

I know that was childish, but I couldn't resist. My Mum always told me off for being flippant when I was younger... it clearly didn't have an effect.

I need some too

I can't seem to keep a pair for more than a month. I carry them around town and they are forever getting broken, lost. I need something small and tidy. I guess I'll try some Sennheisers again next. My cheapo big Sony cans are kaput.

Pat, I reccommend these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Klipsch-Image-X1-Headphones/dp/B002EL3P5U/ref=sr...

Sound-wise, they are at least as good as lower end Sennheisers, but unlike them their build quality is good: I have had a pair for about a year without them busting - and at that price I think that is good value

Shure SE115

and add some Comply tips. Great sound and brilliant fit. Not the cheapest but I have never had a pair of earbud type headphones that stayed put like these do.

What Lee said

I buy headphones the way (*sexist generalisation alert*) women buy shoes, and by far the best bang per buck has been provided by the entry level Shures. And the Comply tips are the icing on the cake.

Currently rockin' some Etymotic ER4s with the Comply tips and they are the business, but they ain't cheap. The Shures are much better value.

Bargain Alert

£40 here.

http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/Headphones.6/Shure.44/SE115-/Sh...

I paid £64 for mine and was delighted at that price. They sell the Comply tips here as well.

They're pink!

Was tempted but only the shocking Pink ones are £40!

0
Dr Volume | 23 March 2011 - 11:54pm

Ahh.

What colour are your ears then?

0
Leedsboy | 24 March 2011 - 7:37am

In fairness

the blue or red ones at £52 are a steal as well.

0
Leedsboy | 24 March 2011 - 8:55pm

i'm actually in the same boat as you Pat

Having lost a sweet pair of sennheisers, I'll probably go for them again. The pair I had were 35 quid from Argos...

Richer Sounds

I have a pair of Sennheiser ear-bud type headphones that cost under £25 in Richer Sounds last year.

There's a branch in Holborn, which isn't too far from Euston if you wanted to make a detour before Friday's soiree.

0
Carl Parker | 23 March 2011 - 7:54pm

ooh! I WORK in Holborn!

Can you be more specific Carl?

I got these for my iPod

http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-and-personal-audio/headphones-and-heads...

they're £69 which made my eyes water, but I had a listen to them before I bought and they do make a significant difference (especially lower frequencies) and I listen to my iPod a lot. So, rough price, good product.

Also

the silicon tips come in three different sizes to allow for variations in lughole dimensions.

Bose In-ear 'phones (see above)

...is the way to go for sound quality and comfort.
I've had mine since Christmas and they are excellent.
If your budget will stretch that far - get a pair.

Bose QC3

Just bought a pair. Great for planes too.

Bose QuietComfort

I have the Bose QuietComfort head phones. Yes, they're ridiculously expensive but the sound quality is fantastic and there is no sound leakage (or whatever it's called). My spouse bought them for me as a birthday gift so I wasn't aware of the price until recently.

Now, when I wear them, I can't hear a thing he says. It's great.

Indestructible ones

is what I need. I get through these f**kers, like crisps.

0
Zanti Misfit | 23 March 2011 - 11:06pm

Bose IE2

Anyone got these?

They promise a lot and they're pricey so I'd like an opinion before I commit

0
Pat Carty | 24 March 2011 - 12:10pm

Never tried them but...

...when they first came out there was apparently a real issue with them staying in ears - they are a sort of cross between yer bog standard 'bud' design and a proper pair of 'in-ears'.

I suspect this additional 'wing' bit on the plugs is supposed to remedy that flaw but looking at the pictures I can't see how they'd work.

For the same price Pat, you could get some Shures and I GUARANTEE* they will be better.

*insert standard disclaimer here.

Slightly off topic

but can anyone recommend a way of listening to an ipod in bed, without disturbing SWMBO?

0
emaol | 24 March 2011 - 7:00pm

Its bang on topic - I use headphones

With my tongue out of my cheek, my comfy Shure in ear ones with Comply tips are often still in my head when I wake up with no damage to ear nor earphone.
