Have you ever watched the wrong film?
I settled down a short while ago to watch a film I'd recorded off the horror channel a few days ago, Peter Jackson's zombie gorefest Brain Dead. I couldn't remember whether I'd seen it before.
Now I was disappointed from the off, because it was badly acted and the effects were poor, but I thought that was probably the charm of it, as I've read a lot of references to it being a good film, making the most of a low budget. Alarm bells started to ring at the high levels of nudity early on though. I was surprised that someone who'd made this film would be given big budget Hollywood films.
The action got worse and I started reaching for the fast forward button, disappointed that I just didn't get what all the fuss was about. And then it hit me. Perhaps I was watching the wrong film. Sure enough, Jackson's film is Braindead and not Brain Dead. Easy mistake to make, but I'm never going to get those 25 minutes back.

Yes I'm sure that has happened
'What do you mean 'The Wizard of Oz' hasn't got a naked lesbian slumber party scene in it? Damn that Radio Times!'
Aye. But the Railway Children has got Jenny Agutter in it.
And you get to see it all in Walkabout. Tits. Muff. The lot. And there's that shower bit in American Werewolf.
The Railway Children is basically kiddy porn.
Ban This Sick Filth, etc
You haven't even mentioned
"Logan's Run". Probobably the pivotal film of my puberty.
There is something disconcerting about disrobing adult ladies who were child stars though; I'm not sure I could watch "The Piano" now after two series of "True Blood".
Happened time and time again to me.
Nympho Stocking-Clad Anal Frenzy III isn't a patch on Stocking-Clad Nympho Anal frenzy III
To think that I was so naive.
Braindead
is pretty rank too, if that helps.
China Syndrome
I bought it. Sat Mrs T down for a couple of hours to watch one of the greatest films ever made (according to the critics). Was somewhat disappointed.
I'd confused it with Chinatown.
China Syndrome
It's not one of the great films, but it wasn't bad as I recall. Jane Fonda and Jack Lemmon were big stars. Michael Douglas was still a comparatively small time actor and was still thought of as Kirk's son rather than as later when his fame blossomed and Kirk became known as Michael's dad.
At the time of release it had gained huge topicality because the Three Mile Island accident gave it about the best publicity boost it could have hoped for.
Monty and Muppets
In college, my roommate and I went to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail in a small campus dormitory theater. We sat down and noticed the place was filled with parents and small kids. We were getting all judgmental: "What kind of parents bring little kids to a Monty Python movie?"
Then the lights went out and The Muppet Movie started. Not quite what we expected.
Whilst in the cibema
Watching Get Shorty, I began to become aware of a couple of old ladies sat behind me tutting at every swear word and act of violence. When a lady gets punched in the face, the tuts reached a peak and one said to the other, "Doris, I don't think this is Cutthroat Island"
How To Tell If You've Seen Jackson's Braindead:
Do you remember the use of a Flymo?
Imagine my dissapointment
when i stayed up late to watch a documentary on Sky about the 'great American Beaver'.
Jackson's Brain dead is a classic though. "I kick Ass for the Lord!"
Batman Forever instead of Bridges of Madison County
One rainy Sunday afternoon 15 years ago, my wife and I went to see The Bridges of Madison County at the local UCI along with about 50 popcorn-munching pensioners, who made up the rest of the audience.
After the usual adverts and trailers, the film started. Imagine our surprise when, rather than a somewhat rose-tinted and whimsical romance, the latest Batman film started, with its bleak depiction of Gotham city. It took a whole 5 minutes for the projectionist to realise his/her mistake.
A brief intermission and then all the pensioners were able to settle into their Sunday afternoon snooze.
On reflection, I'd have rather seen Batman Forever. Hey, ho! ;-)
Title Tattle
I sat down to watch 'Count Dracula and his Vampire Bride', starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, a little while back. I was really looking forward to it - a Hammer Dracula film that I hadn't seen before - until I realised that I was watching 'The Satanic Rites of Dracula' all over again, being broadcast under its US title...
