Have the Hold Steady stopped being 'the best new band in America' (and if so, when did it happen)?

Does anyone else still like them or are their 5 minutes of buzz over? Have you played them recently?

Personally

I can't be doing with them. Never really did understand what the fuss was about. Dullard, south of Boresville

Totally agree

Never liked them.
One of those bands that, on paper, should have been right up my playlist, but in reality I loathed.

Boys & Girls

is still on regular play in the Chris household. iTunes informs me it's far & away the most played set of tunes I have. Not sure they'll better it.

ok

I liked "Chips Ahoy!" and their cover of BROOOOOCE's "Atlantic City", otherwise a bit pedestrian MAN-rock.

Sorry.

Stay Positive

(get it?)

OK the last album was not up to the standards of Boys and Girls..., but they're still a darn good band.

They've probably reached their popularity peak and now have a life time of Drive-By Truckers-level-fame ahead of them, but thats no bad thing.

Unfortunately for them they probably got into the public eye a bit too much, and now have to deal with some critic-bashing for a few more months.

This will be the backlash then.

I suppose it's a tad overdue.
Separation Sunday is currently occupying me. My pick of their releases.
Awesome band, superb live.

Hope it's NOT the backlash

I started this 'cause was listening to them over the weekend, (agree about 'Separation Sunday' btw), and was hoping their 'moment' hadn't passed, the media and public moved onto the next big-thing-in-waiting.

Last (second) time I saw them, (on the 'Stay Positive' tour), they didn't seem to be having as much pure fun THEMSELVES, onstage, the guitarist standing as far away as possible from the rest of the band, as opposed to the year before, and the whole lot of 'em looking to be weeing themselves with delight at being there, doing that, loving it and each other, climbing on and jumping off the drum risers etc.

But I still think it was a good album! (Grew on me.)

Saw them last week

at the tiny 02 Islington & they rocked. Can't imagine how exhausting the two headed tour with the Drive By Truckers must have been for the punters.
