Happy tonight

johnsimpson1965's picture

I have a rare night to myself(apart from the mutt). No kids, no FPO.
I have a curry and two large bottles of very chilled Bitburger.
I have my Rush "Behind the lighted stage" dvd that I got at Christmas.
And i`ve watched Dads Army.

Apart from a lack of pickled onions and vintage cheddar I couldn`t be happier.

How`s your Saturday night?

Very mellow, thanks for asking

We've finally got straight after three months of assorted workmen. For dinner tonight - in our shiny new kitchen - we had some poached chicken with a leek and tarragon sauce and assorted veg, followed by some Pecotino with figs - all washed down with an excellent Sancerre. With a large expresso from my new coffee machine, I'm feeling content.

Inspector Morse on the DVD and all's well with the world.

Woah, that's ASTOUNDINGLY middle class.

It sounds so civilized & healthy that it made my eyes widen.

I realise that this says far more about me than it does you Gavin...

A pair

of fine steaks with rosti and roast carrots. 2 bottles of red and some decent cheddar & stilton. I only hope the kids sleep in tomorrow. But right now? Happy as a sandboy.

Unhappy then happy

decided to trim my tash last night whilst I watched the telly, well it worked before.
Got up today, showered, dressed, had a few cuppas, several fags then went out in the torrential rain to get some victuals for an evening at home.
After purchasing my wine and beers I got into my car, adjusted the rearview and caught a glimpse of my face. A slight Hitler Moustache with a trace of a Fu Man Chu would probably be the best description.

I now sport a rather racy goatee.

I've been DJ-ing in a Bar with my mate

A deeply satisfying evening playing music we love, a Peel-esque selection ranging from Captain Beefheart to Dubstep, for a small but appreciative bunch of folks.

The new Horrors single went down very well, as did the new Nicolas Jaar, a man was thrilled that we played 'Chelsea Girl' by Simple Minds (well why not?) and someone came up to with their Blackberry to show me they'd 'Shazam'-ed the SBTRKT song I was playing and wanted to check it the right one? Bless!

Now resting my aching feet and reading this (with the Washed Out LP on) and an Organic Pinkus Special Bier. Nice!

Harry Potter

Took the kids to see the latest Harry Potter on this new IMAX 3D screen that we've just got here. Pretty impressive and enjoyed the film too (much much better than Part 1).

After that, baked potato at Wendy's for supper for me (I missed dinner) whilst wife and kids were in Border's and then home (albeit via a rather annoying traffic jam)

Ditto

The Umpire clan saw HP7:2 last night too. I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. That was partly because the audience (at Liverpool Fact) was incredibly well-behaved with barely a whisper or rustle for the entire showing, but also because it's actually a pretty good film. I was amazed at how quiet long sections of it are. I imagine it would be a nightmare to watch in a noisy multiplex screen.

We all smiled when one of the significant characters died and the young lad behind us (5 or 6 years old) turned to his mum and whispered loudly "XXXXX is dead and he was only made of tissue." Aw, bless.
