Happy Birthday Tracey Thorn
Posted by Twangothan on 26 September 2011 - 11:34am.
Happy birthday to one of our best singers and songwriters. Her voice appears to be (amazing to me...) a Marmite thing, but her lyrics are unarguably wonderful. Like this example dealing with her relationship with her teenage daughter.

Tracey Thorn
Wonderful voice:
Happy birthday Tracey!
She's...
a very under-rated singer and songwriter. "Eden" is a wonderful album, and all of her solo stuff is worth a listen.
Today I found out
I share the same birthday as Tracey Thorn, Bryan Ferry, Olivia Newton-John, Julie London, George Gershwin, Linda Hamilton, Will Self, and Carlene Carter.
A talented bunch indeed!
Now off to figure out some reason for my own existence!
Sorry Twangers,
but I can't bring myself to click on the 'Play' arrow. I'm very much on the other side of the Marmite jar, I'm afraid, as far as she's concerned.
I was subjected to rave recommendations for the first EBTG album, bought it, played it (well, some of it), was thoroughly horrified, returned it to Tony's Records the same day and bought a Talking Heads album instead. Phew! Lucky escape. To my ears, I'm always waiting for her to slip off key, and I can't enjoy the songs.
Happy Birthday Tracey, anyway!
I know
I know you're not a fan, VV. That's OK. But in fact "Eden" is the only one where she does that woozy pitching. And is my least favourite, though more because for some inexplicable reason I loath the bossa nova rhythm, especially in a cod jazz context. Don't ask me why. Click on the arrow! Both songs! Be a man!
ps I have equal dislike for Talking Heads as you have for the divine TT. David Byrne. Arrrgh.
She does a nice line in tweets too
@tracey_thorn
Frankly anyone who's not heard her \ Everything But The Girl, just go and get Home Movies and see how good they were even pre-Missing.
Now for some Marmite on toast...
Used to
I unfollowed her because she wouldn't shut up about the bastard X Factor.
