Happy birthday
This evening, like 99 others before, will see me putting off all other important business to settle in for a couple of happy hours with The Word. This is a great and wonderful thing, and one which still, 8 years on, fills me with joy and excitement.
I remember reading about a new magazine being published by Mark Ellen and David Hepworth, men who I first knew as a kid with Smash Hits, then again at Q and in whose hands I felt safe. A man needs a magazine and on the strength of issue 1, The Word was for me.
I still have every copy; occasionally I get them together and file them in order, but inevitably I'll seek out a half remembered article or go back and look for a review of an album, book or film that, as usual, I've come to late. It means that there are back issues all over the house, but each has been read and re-read.
The Word has seen me through holidays, train journeys, happy afternoons in the garden and nights up with sick children. For all this, I am grateful.
Happy Birthday.

Hear Hear.
I second that emotion with knobs on.
Me too.
It's been a blast.
Just got in from work
& there it was waiting, Word 100.
Thats me entertained for a while.
Heres to the next 100.
Happy 100th
Looking forward to reading Word later this evening, it's still in its plastic wrapping and will read later with a herbal mint tea and some late night jazz. Happy Birthday, a highlight for a Monday.
Word 100
Early shift all week means its almost bedtime, so in a minute or 2, I will be going upstairs with Word 100 under my arm.
I may have to masturbate.
Happy Birthday Indeed
And what a great celebratory issue it is.
I particularly enjoyed seeing all the covers again, with some interesting sales comments.
Worst/Best - Galaxie 500 and 100% Dynamite in best. You could not be more correct, and sums up why I love The Word more than any other music based* magazine.
*although in my local Tesco, the magazine has moved from the entertainment section to men's lifestyle. Must be all those beardy covers. Still, a perfect opportunity now to print pics of Wendy O Williams and Siouxsie with their bazookas all over the shop.
Happy birthday
best mag out there. Long may it continue.
Ditto
Like some others, I'm technologically deficient so I'm conveying my congratulations, thanks and good wishs for the Word and all who sail in her by the frankly antediluvian medium of a message on the forum. Sheesh!
Fruity drinks may be taken
There it was on the doormat when I got home. Word 100. A sight for sore eyes after another day at the coal face.
Congratulations to all at Word Towers past and present. Thank you for continuing to make my dream magazine (Smash Hits for grown ups - that was your intention, wasn't it?)
Trebles all round, etc.
