Happy 65th Birthday to The Dame, Mr David Bowie
Posted by DogFacedBoy on 8 January 2012 - 9:02am.
Has had a major effect on me, the music I listen to and how I think a pop star should be. I actually got into Bowie in order to impress my first girlfriend (or get into her, I forget). Her pal told me she was a big fan and as I only knew the hits I went to the library and got out Ziggy, Hunky Dory and Diamond Dogs. Was instantly smitten.
It turned out the girl had borrowed her brothers records and didn't really like Bowie that much. She's long gone but me n the Dame are still going strong. And I would if I was gay. I so would.
So, Chameleon, Comedian, Corinthian and Caricature - Happy Birthday, Dave

Oh, is it that time of year again?
Well marked, canine countenanced child.
I was watching The Man Who Fell to Earth the other day and thought how well he's aged compared to the film.
Happy Birthday, you freaky old bastard, you.
And I would, even if I'm not gay.
(Bowie, Flight of the Conchords)
S'pose we ought to wish the King a happy one too, wherever he is.
(Kate Bush, King of the Mountain)
Happy Birthday David
it,s been a hell of a career, and if he is now completely retired, then i,m glad he,s been able to do it on his own terms. He has been the figurehead of British rock music for 40 years..it,s been a privilege to grow old with him.
Plus you two got to hang out in Berlin
We'd like to see him gig on a bus with his new pass
Possibly doing a cover of summer holiday.
Many happy returns to the Dame-only the other day heard Brian Cox choose Queen Bitch as his #1 choice on DID
My first thought on seeing today's date
was that it was DB's birthday. At the tender age of 11, I fell under the spell and I'd agree with everything DFB says above. Like The Beatles, I find myself going through phases where x or y album/period is my favourite. These days I'm particularly into the (I feel often overlooked) Space oddity album...For some reason, I've always thought that 'the Austrian' mentioned in this GORGEOUS bit of solipsism is Hitler, having had a rethink in 1923 and moved to London....Go figure. such are the vistas that Mr Jones' work can open in a man's mind.... I hope he is well today and enjoying his birthday - and yes, if there's one person in this world i'd like to meet more than any other....
Greatest song of the 70s
Perhaps one of the greatest of all time - quintessenially Bowie
Happy Birthday Ziggy (and I've forgotten about the Glass Spider thing, OK?)
but not everyone gets him
Here's what some people hear:
Everyone on this forum should seek out a copy of this album
...or PM me discretely...
When I was in my mid-teens
I thought I was being terribly clever and sophisticated by saying of Bowie, "If he's a musical prostitute, then he's a damn good lay."
Now that I'm an old man I'd like to cuff my younger self round the ears for this (among many offences), and simply say: a very happy birthday your Dameship, to a real artist, innovator and writer of one of the greatest lyrics ever put to music.
Happy birthday, David.
Though nothing
Will keep us together
We could steal time
Just for one day -
We can be Heroes
For ever and ever
What d'you say?

And that impression only got better
Shut it!
Amen, Amen. Got bless that man DB/DJ
and the star he fell from.
65 eh? Time, he flexes like a whore....
any excuse to post this again
"a bizarre self constructed freak" said the man from the Beeb.
Good to see Ronno Again
i,ve read many interviews over the years from people he recorded with and no-one,s had a bad word to say about him...so sad he,s not around anymore.
Ah well, he was only sixty years out...

Happy Birthday Dave, many of them
This is a good one
Used on a North American commercial..I thought..That's a brilliant Bowie track I've never heard.
I know I've posted this before
but it's a belter.
great thread
and nice effort by 6 music. really enjoyed Tom Robinson on Fridya night, good exmaple of not playing the obvious stuff. Strongly recomended for those who might have missed it.
I've posted this before too but
it's good for the soul:
Wild Is The Wind
My favourite vocal performance of the great man. Pretty cool video too

Happy Birthday! May there be many more.
Other-worldly
he genuinely seemed that way at times in the 70s. This was always a favourite of mine - Drive-in Saturday
Happy birthday Mr. Jones
My fav 45
