Hammersmith help

garyt's picture

I will be in London next Saturday to see Todd Rundgren at the Hammersmith Apollo (he's doing 'A Wizard, A True Star' in it's entirety). I was hoping some more metro-savvy members of the massive could point me in the direction of a good Indian restaurant in the area. I'd also appreciate info regarding any good pubs, and also if there are any good record shops close by.
Thanks, Gary

Welcome to west London!

From the community website HammersmnithToday:

"Le Cinnamon on Shepherds Bush Road (Hammersmith end) is an upmarket restaurant and has very very good food, likewise Mr India on Beaconsfield Terrace (cheaper) although both lack a little ambiance. A good all-rounder (nice friendly service and very good food reasonably priced) is the Kathmandu on the corner of Paddenswick and Goldhawk Road (near Seven Stars Corner). There is also another upmarket one Indian Zing on King Street'.

Actually, there are quite a few on King Street - Annakarli, Annapurna and most on King Street are good, as is Zing, albeit it's a bit pricey.

The pubs - well, the nearest ones are ok - Edwards and the Wm Morris. The Hop Poles and Ram are better - do a google search on Hammersmith pubs to check out reviews and locations.

In terms of record stores, there's an HMV on King Street, but if you have time, take the tube a couple of stops to Chiswick Park and check out the excellent Dada on Chiswick High Road.

If you've time to spare...

....ignore the horrid chain pubs around the station and head for the river; there are some OK pubs just by Hammersmith Bridge, but a little walk upriver will bring you to The Dove - http://www.fullers.co.uk/rte.asp?id=4&itemid=84&task=View - which is proper and old and London Pride-selling.

Agreed...

A good pub crawl along the river:

The Blue Anchor
http://www.blueanchorlondon.com/

There's the Old Ship too
http://www.oldshipw6.com/

and The Rutland Arms
http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/21/2112/Rutland_Ale_House/Hammers...

You might not be sober by the first number though.

Rutland Weekend

Rutland Arms is the pub all the Mott the Hoople fans from all over the world lived in last October for the reunion gigs - great beer / food / atmosphere just 5 minutes down the side of the Appolo by the river - Roll Away the Stone !
