Halp!

pulseczar's picture

You know when you go into a record store and they have some totally random CD playing and you think 'oh, I know that one' and you like it but not enough to go to the counter and ask what it is, and then you go about your business and 8 months later it's still in your head, driving you to distraction?

Yeah.

Fopp (Union St. Glasgow, for the curious) were playing some summery album one time when I was in this past summer, miraculously enough. The music's an instrumental piece, sort of jazzy, easy listening-y, chill out-y stuff. Orchestral, too, by the grand swelling of the strings in my head every 15 minutes or so. It recalls a very specific picture in my head, too - one of tropical seas and a beach with white sand and palm trees and a gentle warm breeze blowing. It's almost certainly been used in a holiday program with Judith Chalmers.

Any suggestions of what it might possibly be would be so gratefully received, I may grab your virtual ankles and weep on your feet. Virtually, too. I won't really wreck your shoes.

Was it

Give It Away by Zero 7?

seems to tick most boxes including the swelling strings

Sadly, no

I'm pretty sure it's older. And slower. But thanks for the guess, I'm now so laid back I'm going to have trouble getting back onto my chair...

The good thing (there is one)

about getting older is not feeling in the slightest bit embarrassed to go up to the spotty, pierced & tattooed sales assisant and ask "What's that you're playing?".

Shazam

Or there is the beauty of using Shazam and credibility is saved

How about

Les Nuits by Nightmares on Wax?

A promising start

But no. Thanks though!

It's not got any bass or guitar parts that I can recall. And it puts me in mind of James Bond soundtracks (of the day when Sean thinks-hitting-women-is-a-OK!-they-deserve-it! Connery was Bond)

The perils of skim-reading. Apols.

Air?

Is it something by Air maybe? Sorry I can't post any videos from where I am now.

Retro Man | 21 January 2010 - 12:29pm

Nope

Sure it's not Air. Got most of their albums already, see.

Could it be...

... "Slip Into Something More Comfortable" by Kinobe? It was a staple on chill-out albums for a while and ticks all your boxes.

It's not on Spotify and I can't access YouTube at work, but it's worth looking up...

Wasn't that the music used on the M&S adverts?

Would probably have got there even quicker if you'd mentioned that!
