and gives it a good shot.

But this is one of the finest performances by a female country artist. An incredible vocal.

Lembit Opik

has put on some weight hasn't he? Probably done it before he is off to the Aussie Jungle with ICGMOOH.

Martina

I love Martina. I always thought this was a staggering performance...listen to the 13 second sustained note at 2.25, beautifully controlled.

She can rock too...

Not sure about Martina

These are the first songs of hers that I've (knowingly) heard, and to be honest, I'm nonplussed. The songs sound like generic modern Nashville product, the arrangements are schlocky, and while she can sure as hell sing, it doesn't do anything for me. I don't like her on-stage schtick either. It's all a bit Shania Twain, isn't it?

I enjoyed Gwyneth Paltrow's turn more. I already knew she could sing, from Duets, but was very impressed with this. Even though she could justifiably be dubbed a dilettante, she sounds more like my idea of Country than Martina McBride does.

Harsh but fair

Un peu harsh, but I can't disagree with your assessment as a MM newbiew. The CMA one is big ballad, and I guess a little shlocky but I don't really mind that...the other could be accused being slightly Shania though she can't get within a country mile of Martina for singing ability. But hey, she is a modern country singer. I will do you a comp of good stuff as a last ditch attempt to convert you!

Try this....with Levon Helm on harmonies - can you have more cred? Written by Matraca Berg too. Phew!
