Soliloquies of chaos

Guru's voice always sounded mournful (sometimes monotonous - he himself called it "monotone") and it worked so well with DJ Premier's use of creepy, moving, cinematic samples. They were a great antidote to the gangsta rappers who promoted shooting your girlfriend as a leisure pursuit.

Here's "Code of the Streets" - could've been on "The Wire" soundtrack:

Mind you, this is a great party tune - "Lovesick (Upbeat mix)":

R.I.P. Guru

Very sad news. Guru was one of the best rappers I've ever heard, and Gangstarr were a great combination of his vocals and DJ Premier's production skills. Will be digging out some of his classics to remember him by. Let's hope we don't lose too many more talented people this year.
