Guest Musicians

Imagine that you are recording your latest album / single and the record company come to you saying that they have found a bunch of extra cash stuffed behind the mixing console, so you can have ANY guest musician you want.
Who would it be - EC on guitar, Dr John on piano, Mark Ellen on sax solo....... the choice is yours.
Mine ? I'd go for David Bowie on Sax - for the sheer reason that it would be totally unexpected for his first activity after many years out of action.

Eric Clapton
on ukulele
Hi Eric!
And looking very relaxed, Adolf Hitler on vibes. Nice!
I think I've been naive...
.. I always presumed that guest appearances were "free" (apart from a portion of Fruit & Flowers of course) - a sort of helping a kindred spirit helping out on the new LP because they were at a loose end that day. Is this not the case and guest slots are paid a daily rate & / or a % royalty ?
I'm fairly sure
Kirsty MacColl's album Kite was so called because David Gilmour contributed to it and asked for a kite as recompense. A very nice kite presumably.
Alive or Dead?
If he was still with us, I'd probably pick someone like Nicky Hopkins, simply because of his track record of playing on decent records.
Meanwhile in the real world, I'd go for a wild card. If I was recording an album of (say) country rock, I'd get Robert Fripp in, because his contribution would be unique, unexpected, and almost certainly brilliant.
Stewart Lee
on guitar, and crisps.
Steve Martin on banjo.
Seasick Steve on the Mississipi Drum Machine.
Now try saying that with a sibilant 's'.
Van Morrison
on harmonica.
Bob Holness
On Sax.
Jo Whiley
On the triangle.
Why Don't You Get Her
to guest on Jimmy Webb's next record
Andy Kershaw
on the wagon
Uncle Monty
to provide the clique track
