Grateful Dead extravaganza
Posted by MyAmericanMate on 19 February 2011 - 8:33pm.
If you can't swing the 450 bucks for 65 live Dead cd's, just tune in to KPFA this weekend for its annual Grateful Dead Marathon. Ok, it's to raise funds to keep it on the air but it really is one of the greatest radio stations going. So give a few bucks (or not), sit back and revel in the longest ever live version of Dark Star (a spiraling 47 minutes in Rotterdam on May 11, 1972).

Thanks buddy...
...wasn't aware of this or KPFA
Thanks MAM, I'll be there.
There is, of course, the perennial debate around whether the 64 minute Dark Star from Aug 69 counts as one song or two plays of DS separated by The Eleven. Of such things long evenings in the pub are made :-)
Is it meant
to sound that bad?
I wonder
what they're doing right now?
I wish he'd spent the first
minute tuning up his voice...

Just think, if you started listening to ONE a day now, you'd get to the end in just over TWENTY ONE YEARS, ie 2032.
Sadly they only allow streaming of the soundboard tapes.
But the audience tapes are available for download and,s given the Dead's policy of providing a special tapers section just in front of the mixing desk, there's some very high quality audience tapes there.
