gracenote - Now Hear This - problem?
Posted by badartdog on 21 January 2010 - 8:26pm.
Apols if done already but when I put the latest NHT cd into iTunes, Gracenote can't identify the tracks - is it me or is there a problem?

Crowd sourcing?
I've always assumed for free compo CDs that Gracenote relies on a reader having typed in all of the track names and uploaded them. If I'm right, it would suggest that no one has done this yet!
I always wait a few days before ripping the Word CD
so that someone else can type the tracks in to CDDB :-)
I,ve found that
Some discs work fine, but certain ones only identify one artist from the disc, as if you,ve loaded that artist,s own album, ,example being "Dec 2008" comes up as a "Junipers" album, and "March 2009" a Damned one--i know because i spent three hours tracing a lot of these songs last night!! Thought i,d scored for a Ry Cooder cd until i realised it was "july 2008" !!

aha -
i was surprised it didn't seem to be done - I did search for gracenote and the relevant cd number but nothing came up.
So I have to type in the titles|? and the artists? Myself? Tut.
I refer the honourable gentleman
To my earlier answer.
As did I, Fraser:

:-)
Indeed
Good work.
A pat on the head from Fraser -
today's just not going to get any better...
...and i read them too
it'll be sorted for the next one. Can't someone from the Word pop round and type all those pesky song titles and artists names for me? I'm a busy man.
A few
days ago I gave up waiting and instead just copy and pasted the "artist - track title" from the CD page on this website. As I'm usually using copy and paste anyway as I use Word Magazine as the artist name I think it worked out at the same amount of labour as usual. So I'm giving up on Gracenotes and will be doing that from now on.
Can I just say...
... it's worked for this month's CD, so either something's been done differently or it's all just down to chance.
Either way, much appreciated!
