Got Something To Plug? Here's Your Opportunity.
I just received a nice e-mail from Massive member (fnarr! fnarr!) Lucas Hare, asking me if there was a way around this site's rules on self-promotion, as his bother Sam Hare is playing at the Blues Bar on Charlotte St on Friday, in the heart of London's swinging Fitzrovia district, and he's keen for Word readers to attend. Lucas describes Sam's music thusly:
It's basically what John Hiatt referred to as a little bit of rhythm mixed up with country blues; self penned and, as I'm sure you're aware, in dire need of support from as many people as possible. I'll be going, obviously.
As I'm a soft touch I've decided to allow this one instance of promotion, and any that follow in the comments. So if you've got a blog you'd like to plug, a club night you want to promote, or a band with up-and-coming shows, now's your chance to spread the word. Leave the details in the comments.

I'd like to plug
Queen Street Will Burn
www.myspace.com/queenstreetwillburn
aaaand myself, just because I can. I don't have a myspace though, you can find my fanpage along with free streaming mp3s on facebook under Jon Dodd.
I won't inundate you with a forensic breakdown of influences and other things that you don't care about but you might like it.

I'd like to thank...
No, seriously. Thanks so much, Fraser. This site rocks for so many reasons.
A great book
My friend and Word poster Tim Turner has written this great novel called The First Time I Met The Blues, about a young British blues band trying to make it in Sixties London.
So just in case he doesn't get round to posting today, here's the link
http://www.timturnerbooks.co.uk/
First Time I Met The Blues
F-C has beaten me to it, but can I just add that the book should be right up your street if you’re a Word reader (which I assume you are, if you’re perusing this blog), being mainly about music, with a smattering of football, sex and violence. Oh, and gob-irons feature prominently, though not Van Morrison’s.
It’s yours for a very reasonable £7.99, all of which goes to the impoverished author, ie me. That link again:
http://www.timturnerbooks.co.uk
Well it worked for me
I'd have bought it had I seen in Waterstones so my order's in.
I'm just a whore to marketing!
Ker-ching!
Thanks Neil. I've got your order and I'll put the book in the post in the next couple of days.
Order sent
For some reason PayPal didn't allow me to include a message.
Got it, thanks
Assuming you’re the gent with the Banbury address. (I don’t want to give away your real name, in case you’re in the witness protection programme or something.)
Sounds like my bag
My order's in!
Cheers
Well... since you ask
I write for a rather fantastic independent online film and music magazine called No Ripcord (www.noripcord.com) and a quick click will show that my article on the potential demise of 6music is on the front page. I also do about 90% of the Twitter feed for the site, so following @noripcord on Twitter is most definitely a "good thing".
Other than that, blog and Twitter can be accessed through clicking on my username but that's more than enough self-promoting solipsism for one day.
Good stuff, Joe.
Is that a Pablo Honey reference?
Cheers!
I believe it is a Pablo Honey reference, but it's not my site - I just contribute
Rat's Entertainment
Can I give a shout to my recent interview with Rat Scabies - he’s a top chap, very down to earth – but, made it clear The Damned (or the band as he refers to them), weren't up for discussion and that's been covered enough in the past. Renne-le-Ratteau is here if you fancy a peep. Where we chat about all Rat's long standing hunt for the Holy Grail.
http://planetmondo.blogsp...at-with-rat-scabies.html
As mentioned there’s no Damned talk, but I did manage a drumming, production and musical influences chat with him which I’ll blog at later date.
Also Lord Dunsby's new website - F.A.B artwork and illustration launched this week

I've been making some bad noises
Inspired by the threat of a clear-out, I moved my unused-for-years music stuff into a cupboard under the stairs, made it into a poxy low rent studio (8 track) and started to do some one man band recordings. I put them on myspace but didn't tell anyone I knew.
I'm quite embarrassed about it all as I clearly can't sing, but the aim is to get some people who can actually play and sing and get them to do the songs. But people keep telling me to toughen up and put it out there. This seems as good an opportunity as any.
http://www.myspace.com/%20marwood77
This was purely for the enjoyment.
I don't gig any more, and I did this for the excellent RPM Challenge this year. If you're not familiar with the RPM, it's a challenge to musicians to make an entirely new album in the month of February each year, for no other reason than to get creative under artificially forced circumstances. I've attempted it three times and finished it twice. There's no prize, other than satisfaction.
Anyway, this year I decided to use Nick Hornby's excellent "Juliet, Naked" as inspiration. The record described throughout the novel, "Juliet" by Tucker Crowe, sounded like something I would listen to, so I took Hornby's song titles, descriptions and lyric fragments and made the record. All ten songs of it. I'm really proud of most of it, and even the songs that don't work aren't TOO bad. IMO, anyway.
Here it is. Please listen and let me know what you think, Massive.

Wow
I really like this stuff - is it bad to say it's a bit Smiths-y (I love The Smiths so meant as huge compliment).
Great arrangements and lots of interesting things going on....love it
It is not bad to say that, no!
I also love the Smiths. I was going for a sort of mid-eighties feel, which I'm not sure I got, but since the record was supposedly made in 1986, I thought it was worth trying for.
Thanks a lot! :)
This is really good...
... every credit.
Thank you
very much.
:)
I made an album
Aw shucks Fraser go on then
I made an album in my home studio. Sound clips here:
http://www.rootsnroll.co.uk/page8a.html
Great art work by my pal Ruth:
Good stuff indeed.
Excellent, Jonathan - I like it very much. Beautifully recorded, too - love the bass sound, and the acoustic guitar sounds very open and natural.
From our nerd desk: I'm going to take a guess that there's a Shure SM-7 mic involved there somewhere, although I might be wrong.
Ah ha!
Good spot but it is not an SM-7, it is an Audio Technical 4033 which sounds very much like an SM-7 but is the cheap alternative. I discovered it reading an interview with a Nashville engineer who said he uses them all the time for acoustic guitar because they are, as you say, nice and open and don't have cheap mic grittyness. I'd love an SM-7 large diaphragm though. The vocals are mostly a Neumann TL-103 and the electric guitars either an SM57 or cheapo ribbon mic on the cab. The bass was DI'd via TL Audio preamp. Nerd attach over....
Ta for kind words!
The SM-7
is almost the only mic I use now. Electric guitars sound stunning through it, and it's pretty much unparalleled as a vocal mic. For my record, I used it for literally all the miked stuff, except for an SM57 which I used to distance mic the amps (the 7 was the close mic). It cost me £300, but it's worth every penny.
Feel depressed...
... didn't realise there was so much talent knocking about this place. Is there anyone out there who, like me, hasn't made an album and just talks shite?
Yes
perhaps we should have a new discussion restricted those with no discernable musical talent but the ability to talk crap about music
You're not alone
I only have my blog for company
http://bar-six.blogspot.com/
Feeling
a bit like a knuckle dragging neanderthal amongst all this talent. Surely if there's this many muso's in here it's not beyond the wit of someone to organise a Word open mic/jam session somewhere?
I'm assuming that all the bases are covered, including a parping horn section and some lovely ladies with co-ordinated swaying on BV's?

Hello!
Yes, I'm a non-talent.
Having said that I've written one third of a completed novel.
To explain, 2 others and I wrote it together online over the course of a few months. It grew from a game of simply sending each other paragraphs of humorous prose to amuse ourselves.
One of us (not me) pulled a plot together from it all and galvanised us into writing individual sections and knitting it together. It worked in that we thoroughly enjoyed the whole venture though as a piece of work I find it intensely busy in style and content.
Not surprisingly after all that effort we parcelled it up and sent it out to all the usual publishers fully aware that it wasn't a Harry Potter or a Da Vinci Code but secretly hoping nonetheless. It was, of course, rejected by all but we kept all the letters which were not in the least bit negative. Apart from the bits that said 'we're not publishing'. Obviously.
If you're interested it's mistaken-identity comic novel called 'A Sheep In Wolf's Clothing'
Likewise
I am officially the only person in Sheffield between the ages of 15 and 45 who is not in, and has never been in, a band.
I contribute reviews to http://www.soundsxp.com - which is mainly old people writing about new music, largely in the spirit of trying to share new stuff rather than any wish to be a journo (which is just as well). Eds are always looking for new writers and will ship out sections of the ever-growing review pile (we've been around for nearly a decade now, so we're on most lists) to anyone willing to show a bit of commitment. Contact details on the site.
Just a blog in a forest of blogs
But it's mine so I love it - general incompetent Londoner stuff:
http://shamefulselfindulgence.blogspot.com/
Started at the same time as a friend started his own blog - through relentless self-promotion (and being funny) he's getting several hundred hits for each new entry and regularly twitters his new pal Charlie Brooker. I am Kermit-coloured with envy. This is my first step in that direction.
And very good it is too
Bookmarked.
Thanks Archie
Good spur to get my arse in gear and update it...
Nice
and you quoted my John Cleese story. Fame at last. Well, I say my story...
I set up a blog myself that has two posts on it that I haven't touched for over a year. You've inspired me to get my finger out. Cheers.
Deep breath...
Here is the 'Rock Dad' band;

Phew.
Thanks Fraser.
ps About an hour in, Phil Bryer of this parish, does a monologue, which we call None of Your Business, after his book.
I've read the books
and jolly entertaining they were too.
I saw you guys a few years ago
at the Kelvedon Free Music Festival and very good you were too. After that, it turned out I used to work with the nephew of your fiddle player.
Keep up the good work.
How very gratifying to have a couple of responses like that
The Kelvedon gig is detailed of pages 101-104 of the book, Matthew...
The radio show is called Why The Long Face? by the way, and is broadcast at ten o'clock on Thursday evenings on www.icrfm.co.uk
Phil's bit is usually on at around 23:00.

Some people say there's a film in there. Mind you, the lovely Rachel said only today that she loves the way that I "pad out a sentence".
Anyone going to be in That There London on Friday June 4th?
Songs from the Blue House are playing at Milford's in the heart of London's glittering Holborn, here - http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/72/727/Milfords/Temple - on Friday 4th June. It's not an officially designated Word meet n' greet (if there were such a thing), but if you *are* about it'd be lovely to be able to say hello. It's a fiver for the gig, but sitting downstairs in the bar having a natter is completely free. We're on at a Word-friendly nine, and there are also another couple of turns appearing - The Nights and Jason McNiff.

A Wire obsessed journalist writes
I contribute a fortnightly column to the brilliant Irish online magazine www.forth.ie. The magazine is quite highbrow but I manage to bring the IQ level down with my tabloid-derived reflections.
Wrote this about The Wire and journalism last weekend:

You could also have a look in at my blog - www.gobshitesmiscellany.blogspot.com - it's perhaps the only one on the planet where Paul Du Noyer ranks second behind The Wire as most popular subject.
opportunities like this don't come every day
so here's my shameless plug. I write songs (described as indie folk?) currently as 'The Low Countries'. We released a concept album last year which contained songs to an imaginary Wicker Man prequel (no Muppets involved, or Nicholas Cage) entitled 'the failing of the strains'. Here's a vid we made for one of the songs (contains banjo so be warned):

My old band's LP is available at all good record stores
..and some crappy ones. Here's the advert for it:
..actually nearer ten years in the making and proof that you *can* polish a turd, that's me flicking the v's at 46 seconds, by the way.
It really is available at the outlets mentioned, but if you were mad enough to want to waste seven quid, I would advise you to buy it from Reflex in Newcastle (the singer works there, so double plug)
Well if the rules have changed just for today...

Just over the road. Daz does a decent cut for £8.00 and I'm taking the boy Loaf over when he's back from play group for a good trim which will cost £4.00. He does natter on about Notts County a bit but you can usually change the subject by asking him about what he's selling on Ebay that day.
Don't think he's got a website but you can probably find him on Ebay which is http://www.ebay.co.uk I think.
Did this once
.
But seriously folks...
A few months ago I joined this website as Commercial Director and we "soft launched" a couple of weeks ago. The big launch is next week with an extensive email marketing campaign etc., more suppliers coming onboard. I've been working all hours (for nowt) and my MD has mortgaged his house to make it happen. It's a new kind of shopping website-bringing people together to get better deals. I bent a few ears at the Word Drinks night and now I'd like your feedback. A lot of you know a lot of things about websites and like to give your opinion. So feel free. One of our number already has.

Thanks Fraser for this opportunity. Message ends.
The fun way to poverty
First, as a German I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize for Scorpions, Eloy and Triumvirat (and what they did to music).
But then, if you like twangy guitars, snappy songs and the Bakersfield sound, you should invest in Bear Family's upcoming (second) Buck Owens box set - 7 CDs with his complete recordings 1965-68, including unreleased songs, the Buckaroos' solo albums, and a couple of unedited recording sessions. Comes with a sturdy 120-page, LP-sized hardcover book full of album sleeves, unseen photos (I sifted through 7,000 uncredited, randomly numbered pictures in the Buck Owens archive for this) and Rich Kienzle's biography.
On a more folky note, my friend Adrian and (what remains of) Helter Skelter published that glorious Clive Palmer biography by Grahame Hood (http://www.helterskelterpublishing.com/item.asp?id=3612). Comes with my map of "Clive's Cornwall" (including a distinct icon for Ye Olde Bog).
Thanks. Danke.
OK, a full-blown plug for charidee
I've put in a couple of very quiet references to this, but I'm very grateful for a chance to shout a bit louder, and hopefully raise some more money.
Long story short: on Sunday 7th of March I did a 50 mile cycle ride from London to Rochester, in aid of HealthProm. The specific beneficiaries of this event are vulnerable women and children in Tajikistan. You can find a bit more information and donate here. They'll be accepting donations for about a month more, so no matter that it's over - and at least you know I've succeeded now!
Anything you can spare will be gratefully received, especially as it's a very small charity; and if you can spare a little but think it's not enough, I assure you it is. It all adds up.
Oh, and if anyone fancies having a go at a pretty challenging quiz on Facebook, there is one there courtesy of yours truly. I don't actually know if this link will work but give it a try. 24 people have taken it and the top score so far is 6 out of 13...
I fell for it
and scored 9/13.
Impressive!
Anyone else care to have a go?
Novel
I've got a novel coming out soon. All I have to do is finish writing it, find an agent, and a publisher.
(Any chance this could be an annual event..?)
No talent whatsoever

The earlier 1970's version of the band have featured on Stuart Maconie's Freakzone and the new version are to play gigs at The Union Chapel & Cavern Club soon.
My job working for the charity Vision Aid includes fundraising and going around talking to groups, Rotary clubs, etc. In the past we were the TRIC's charity of the year - one of our vice-patrons is Roy Hudd - The Bolton Wanderers charity of the season and have been showcased on Children In Need. Sarah Brightman sang (mimed) at our 10th birthday party on GMTV.
Anyone wanting to help us - at no cost to yourself - can do so by using a free search engine http://visionaid.easysearch.org.uk/ or when shopping online at www.easyfundraising.org.uk/visionaid/
Final plug (thanks Fraser) we are registered on eBay For Charity and are looking to run a major campaign selling music & sci-fi memorabilia later in the year. In the bag already is a signed programme by Pavarotti, signed photos of Greg Lake, Jim Kerr, Billy Bragg, Donny Osmond, Star Wars cast, etc, etc but we need much more. Anyone got Macca's number?
Tom McKean & The Emperors
i've been in the heart of the music biz for 20 years, but never managed any artists....until i heard Tom McKean & The Emperors. Their gritty mixture of Cohen Waits and Cave won me over in an instant, and the deal was sealed at a teary trist in the presence of sir Len himself at glastonbury.

My plugging baby
This should be where I direct you to various websites advertise my creative peaks and troughs, but I've just a differing attitude to my work, and a shyness; that I never feel the need to put my stuff out for the world to see. However, if Fraser allows it tomorrow I might add some songs up onto some kind of account. If you're expecting to be blown away, try not to be too disappointed; I think I'd rather hear my songs recorded by somebody else. Because you know, I don't know if the songs are rubbish, or whether it's just because I'm not very good at performing them.
I totally agree with you
I think I'm rubbish at playing and writing but I like doing it - maybe I should keep it within the four walls of my house.
In case you're wondering
That up arrow you have is from me for the best comment title of the day
It would make a great album title.
Or maybe a band name?

More Home Recording...
I also write and record music (and do the odd acoustic gig from time to time). I've been in a few bands but I'm not working with anyone else at the moment. Something to plug
I was a member of this group a couple of years ago, but then cancelled my account because it was beginning to dominate my day. But now I'm back in, very touched by my brother Luke's plug for me and my album. And thanks to Fraser too. To anyone to enjoyed David Hepworth's article on studios and recording techniques, you may enjoy my album - it was recorded onto tape, using old equipment, some ex-Decca, some ex-Abbey Road and then mastered by Giles Martin. It is a very REAL sounding record in the tradition of a lot of the great ones, but it still sounds like today I think. Anyway, it's called 'Down to the sea' and will be available from www.samhare.com from tomorrow onwards. Thanks...
Here's my link....
www.myspace.com/jodavino. We recorded our second album in Nashville a couple of years ago, but babies, weddings etc meant that it was only released in November. It was produced by Jay Joyce, who was amazing but wouldn't let us meet Emmylou Harris on our day off from recording! (she was in doing a song for a film that I can't remember title of!). It was mastered by Bob Olhsson, who worked at Motown, and who I pestered to tell me about James Jamerson! I don't know how I managed to restrain myself from stealing all his original Motown singles! Anyway, we have the whole album streaming online. Be kind!
Terrific Stuff!
Will you still stop by the board when you are rich and famous?

I put on nice gigs in Essex
As well as being involved with Skirky in Songs from the Blue House, I have the pleasure of putting on monthly music nights in Kelvedon, Essex featuring terribly good Americana-ey, Acoustic-y, Singery-songwritery artists. Hmmm...not sure I got that across too well. Suffice it to say that we book artists playing original material properly.
We've been delighted to have Boo Hewerdine along as well as Farrah, the lovely Kim Richey and many others.
Coming up: Ashleigh Flynn, Stephanie Lambring, Clive Gregson, Drew Nelson, Kim Richey again, Kirsty McGee

There's Some
serious musical talent on this board. How about a Word compilation? It could be called "Massive-ly Talented"
Easy
I was involved in something similar on another board - everyone sent tracks in to me (or others - we did about 4) and they were compiiled into a CD - on a first come first served basis till the CD was full. Then we distributed it "virally" - everyone who wanted one agreed to send a few on to others so noone was really out of pocket. Fun! Mind you this was before downloads....
Great idea
It's worth doing just for the name 'Massively Talented' alone!
Given that the spirit of the Word Massive is to organise it's own activities I'm sure among us we can do a DIY job among ourselves?
In the age of the Download the simplest thing would be to create a Bandcamp or Soundcloud page and create a virtual compilation, one track from each of the Massive music makers?. Our artistic members can create some artwork for it. I know you've all got your myspaces but the idea of putting something together under the Word massive banner is rather nice isn't it?
Count me in
I'll get my people to speak to your people, and we'll do lunch, 'kay ?
We should ask...
...The Word scribes to make the cover CD a "Massively Talented" edition one month!

Okay
So I found this rather late. I've been been otherwise engaged. But who knows it might be worth sticking something way down here. A few more ears hearing the tunes is always a good thing.
I have ve a solo album, home recorded, mixed and played, that I am self releasing in a few weeks time. Preview tracks (unmastered) can be heard here:
http://www.myspace.com/thedaveiscoming
When the mastering is finished and the printing/burning done the CD will also be available for purchase there. I'm also playing some central London gigs to promote it. See the myspace for the dates.
I'm also a member of a folk pop duo. Our self released album will also be coming out soon. All the tracks are finished and mastered but the artwork is taking longer than we'd hoped! But we're busy perfectionists so watch this space:
http://www.myspace.com/thereactionaryband
The band I play in, Apples for Everyone, are about to reemerge now we've finally broken in the drummer (and once the bass player gets back from paternity leave). We will have new demos up soon demonstrating our new Epic Folk Punk sound and we have one gig booked at the half moon in April and will be booking more in shortly:
http://www.applesforeveryone.com/
http://www.myspace.com/applesforeveryone
The tracks that you can hear there are the best of our old sound.
And finally please check out the electronic duo that I do with my friend. He lives in Manchester and me in London so its a long distance thing. But we have CD's available to purchase, some free MP3's and some great songs on our myspace:
http://www.myspace.com/themiddleclassbastards
Also here is some wonderful music by two of my friends. Both myspaces offer quality music that is available for purchase:

TV blog
Obsessive, episode-by-episode reviews of (mostly) US drama series showing on UK TV: http://unpopcult.wordpress.com/
We do 'Lost', '24', 'Fringe', 'True Blood', 'House', and so on. We have real jobs as well, so we're just enthusiastic amateurs. But if you like that sort of thing, you might find something diverting. Thanks Fraser.
Why not
I take photos of bands (although to my disappointment have yet to be published in the hallowed pages of Word ;))
http://www.silverhoney.co.uk/
And to plug someone else, do listen to David Ford if you get the chance. He's a nice bloke who makes good music, and doesn't deserve to be broke.

Not published in The Word?
Their loss. Possibly not enough beards. Cracking.
Thank you.
Very kind. :)
Excellent Photos

A Perfect Pop Album
Hello!
I urge you to have a listen to the debut album by Mr Haynes, called Up After Dark. I admit I am a friend of his and I know he'd be a bit too shy to come on here and post about himself!
It really is an astonishingly good album - 10 beautifully crafted songs, all blended seamlessly together to create a proper record that you can play from start to finish and never get bored of.
I know you can listen online but I guess the best place to go is his website: http://mrhaynes.wordpress.com/

I've got a forum to plug!
It started off as a music forum, but is now basically for just general chat & silliness and stuff, free to join, all welcome!
http://musohead.proboards.com/index.cgi
We could certainly do with some of you lot to liven things up - see ya there!
Are we allowed two?
I've got a gig on Sunday - Portland Arms, Portland St, St. Albans - start about 8.30 pm - mostly acoustic, with my mate Pip's lovely singing in evidence too...
Scribblers Unite!
I do a comic called Hope For The Future, which is (mostly) available on the web here
It's your average everyday tale of average everyday folk who seem to have a knack of running into ghosts, warlocks and demons, and then running away. No really, it's good!
In an attempt to promote it, I've harnessed the skills of a musician pal of mine and produced a trailer. We decided that the obvious musical accompaniment for a tale of paranormal shenanigans and occult conspiracies is, of course, a sort of mid paced glam rock stomp (because we love Imperial Drag)...
Watch it, it's short!
By the way...
...as a tie-in with the book (None Of Your Business, mentioned above) there is a Facebook group of the same name, on which I try to encourage similarly disaffected types from the working world to share their tales of incompetence, micro-managing, macro-other-thing, corporate-speak and all-round-bullshit.

My blog (nothing creative)
Sorry folks nothing clever or funny or creative at my blog (rgboulter.wordpress.com) but me ranting and raving about what's wrong with companies and project management (I am one and used to be in one).
But for anyone who is a project manager I'd welcome comments
Ta very much
the i hearts
ok, I'll own up, I manage them. As a jaded old rock 'n roller I was persuaded to venture down to London's trendy Brick Lane about 18 months ago and witnessed quite the most excited new band I'd seen for a long long time!
Like a cross between the White Stripes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the i hearts will rock your socks off!

They're playing at The Ghost Bar in Farringdon this Thursday. Join the Facebook group and get in for a fiver!

Gettin Hectic and Test Pressing Blog
Hello - I want to plug our Club night Gettin Hectic which will be at Hidden in Vauxhall on April 17th tickets available from http://www.gettinhectic-club.co.uk/
It's our last ever night ( we've been running it for 16 years!) the music policy is very diverse, hip hop, funk, soul, house, rock and/or roll, brazillian, reggae, dancehall, house and all those records which made weird noises.)
I also want to plug the Balearic blog I write for testpressing.org it has lovely mixes on it from a host of well know laid back DJ types and a celebration of club culture over the last 30 odd years.
Thank you very much.
This isn't a repost...
...of the last record I made, because I totally dumped one of the songs and rewrote from scratch, and I've remixed and remastered all the others. Feedback always welcome!

Thanks again, Fraser.

If this is still ok...
I'd love people to visit my site:
www.johnharding.co.uk It's an advert for my magic & stand-up basically, but there's a video & blog too.
Thanks Fraser!
Free Promotion For Unsigned Music
My friend and I are trying to get this project off the ground and would welcome any of the Word Massive who make music submitting their EP's or Albums to it:
No Promotion is a free blog designed to help people hear good unsigned music. It allows visitors to download albums/EP's for free by unsigned bands or artists. Its aim is to promote music to blog visitors only therefore not taking away any revenues generated by bands/artists.
We give your music away free to our followers BUT these are not people who would hear your music otherwise. You do not have to tell your customers about us; we want you to make as much as you can from your music. We are here to give you exposure to a worldwide group of listeners who would not be buying your music anyway.
We are not making any money from the blog. It’s purely an idea we don’t think has been done in this way before. We want good underground music to be listened to by people who would never normally hear it.
Here's how it works:
1.Make sure your work is copyrighted. How you do this is up to you but here's a good site that enables you to do it in an interesting way for free: www.creativecommons.org
2.Compress your album/EP tracks to a 'zip' folder. Also include some artwork or a photo in this folder.
3.Upload the zipped album or EP to a filesharing site. We use www.rapidshare.com but any free method is fine with us. Both www.megaupload.com and www.yousendit.com are good too. They are all easy to use.
4.Send the link and a short email to nopromotion.blog@gmail.com. Include information about your band: Where are you from? When was the music made? Where can people buy your music?
No Promotion encourages listeners to purchase the original CDs from the artist and provides links to any websites that you have.
The blog can be viewed here: http://no-promotion.blogspot.com. Once we have amassed enough material, the posts will become more frequent.
Hope to hear from you sometime.
Best wishes,
The No Promotion Team
Twisted Mushroom Pixie Rock
A phrase encountered in this month's Word, in Rob Fitzpatrick's Stevie Winwood interview. Also appears in this interview with Circulus.
Circulus are appearing on the bill of this psychedelic evening, supporting Spirogyra at The Union Chapel on 6th June. I cannot make it but I hope some The Massive will and report back to me on the event.
I am the resurrection, apparently.
I just put a few of the songs I've recorded in the last couple of years in one place. Apologies for the thread resurrection: I didn't want to attract the Wrath Of Fraser, so I thought this would be the best place for it.
