It's a pleasant surprise. The casting is good, as are the performances.

The ubiquitous Bill Nighy steals many scenes due to his dialogue as Grandad Santa. Trying to remember the names of his reindeer got a laugh in our cinema, 'Er... Bambi?...John...?'

He's 4½. His first trip to the flicks. 2D version, of course. He sat, transfixed, for the first forty minutes or so until things went a bit baggy and he got fidgety. But his overall conclusion was that it was dead good and could he go to the cinema again, please Daddy.
