Entertainment For Lively Minds
Gordon Lightfoot

I picked up a copy of his album 'If you could read my mind' from a record fair yesterday for a quid. Not a lot to splash out for i know from someone i'd never heard before, but hey you know these things take up space. Quite frankly it's the and how do i say this the 'loveliest' thing i've heard in years.I find it quite worrying that there's just so much stuff out there that i've never heard and time is going so fast.

"If you could read my mind"
The perfect song for a bleak Autumn day.
(And also very well used on the otherwise-average "Trigger Happy TV" to soundtrack things like people in dog costumes having a fight.)
Probably my favourite music clip
P, P & M doing Gordon's 'Early Morning Rain.' Truly magical.
had v fond memories of Daylight Katy as a single
as well as the above 2-holds up quite well imo

but I think it's probably Early Morning Rain for me as well, next up the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald ...
Had fellow Canadian
Neil Young written "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitgerald" - it would be acclaimed more readily for the masterpiece it is.
He is not in the same league as Young overall and I think there is a parallel with Kris Kristofferson - not quite major league - but a handful of songs that are a match for anything produced in the singer/songwriter genre.
Good anthology here

Thanks for
the link there i forgot he wrote this as well. The man just goes up in my estimation with every passing hour.

"Songbook" box set
My wife has this Gordon Lightfoot 4CD box set compiled by Rhino as a really comprehensive career retrospective. Discs 1,2, and 3 are excellent, and even though disc 4 tails off a little, I'd still say that's it's a very worthwile purchase all round if you fancy an 88-song dose of Gord.
Set me off
wondering about truly fitting boxed set titles, e.g. we should have
Joni Mitchell -- A Case of You
and
Grateful Dead -- Box of Rain
