Any of the massive on G+ yet? Just joined but kindred spirits are a bit thin on the ground at the moment.

I was on the verge
of registering when they asked for access to my contacts. Wasn't keen as I was concerned about all my contacts being emailed, a la Linked-In.
Am I being a twat?
I'm on google+
Only been on for four days, but already have got 20+ word massive in my circles so far, tending to add 5 - 10 friends a day.
Jez, it's not quite like LinkedIn. It works more like Twitter. If I see someone in a friend's circle that I want to add to my circle, I can. Then I can follow their content easily. They get an email notification that I've added them, and can then choose to add me or do nothing. But I can't contact them in any way unless they choose to add me. So no need to worry about your mates getting emailed.
GunsofBrixton, if you want to DM me your email address, I'll add you.
Hi Hannah!
The slight problem is that I can see all the people in your circles, but not which ones are Word Massive members. And, of course, many of the Massive are pseudonymous here, but G+ shows their real names, so I can't correlate. Wouldn't want to send an "add" to someone who's in your family or work-colleague circles. Any of Hannah's circle care to give their real names here, to aid identification? Alternatively, add me (I use my real name both here and on G+) and I'll return the add.
I'm in then
I love a clique, me!
I'm on there
Any massive members feel free to add me - Gavin Hogg
Still haven't really worked out what the hell I'm doing yet but it'll come
I've just joined.....
as well. Seems a bit like being in a bar before it fills up! I can be added as well if ye like - Humphrey Murphy.
I'm there too
Under my real name, as per here. Would welcome any "adds".
I'm on :-)
I joined up this morning. I have added Gavin but not found anyone else yet.
Feel free to add me and just drop me a note with the connection. My name is Joe Singleton
Yikes - 4 Joe Singletons!
...but the waving rodent proved to be the true Joe!
Good point - maybe we need
Good point - maybe we need to give a description of our profile picture as well as our name otherwise it could be difficult :-)
My pic....
is of myself and my lovely wife on our wedding day last year! Name is Humphrey Murphy
Not having any luck finding you...
Always happy to find a new toy
I'm timjulian60 and I think I'm in Hannah's circle and a couple of others too. I think Google + is going to have a hard job weaning me away from Twitter, but I'd be happy to see G+ succeed, so please feel free to add me. You may get a bit of English teaching stuff in your stream, but G+ makes that easy to mute
I'm on (thanks to Hannah)...
...under the cunning pseudonym of Paolo Meccano.
Haven't got to grips with it yet, though - I'll need to have a play around.
Haven't had an invite
[sits sobbing in the lonely corner]
DM me your email address
and I'll sort you out. As it were.
Google Plus
I've signed up, but I simply don't know how to find people. It's just a blank screen with nothing on it.
Any tips for the idiot?
Ta
I'm struggling with it too
but try this: https://plus.google.com/circles/addedyou
then at least you can see who's added you and add them in return, if you want to.
If you've got a Gmail account...
...you'll get emails telling you if anyone's added you to their circles.
How does one find it?
Any pointers?
Invite only at the moment
though it was shut down to new members even if they had an invite - might still be the case. https://plus.google.com/up/start/?sw=1&type=st for updates and registration.
Why is it invite only?
That's weird.
Invite only isn't uncommon for new tech ventures
It enables them to ramp-up the user numbers at a (reasonably) predictable rate thus avoiding the site being swamped. Spotify was invite only in the early days.
Considering
...that Google ran out of hard disk space for Google+ in the first week, they must be glad it was invite-only at first. It gives them time to map out site expansion.
I'm kind of enjoying it, but at present no-one's cracked the USP. It seems to be a cross-posting place for Facebook and Twitter right now. The Circles idea is not revolutionary but implemented in a quite brilliant way.
Interesting response to the invite only approach
http://www.beatweek.com/news/8772-google-invite-system-makes-insular-gee....
Well I thought it was interesting but then I work in marketing.
Have just
started adding people to a "Word Magazine" circle; hope you don't mind. If you get any adds from a Fraser Marshall, now you know why and I'd be delighted to be added back.
It does seem
to be 'invitation only' as we speak, and, no, we are full up, and you can't come to the party at the moment. I've left my details. I'll just hang about out here in the cold until someone opens the door for me. Hello? Hello?
Open invitation...
If anyone else on here wants an invite (policybloke, that includes you), DM me and I'll send you one.
Sorry
Hannah, didn't see your reply till just now, and my pathetic bleating got me an invite from Mr Mecanno earlier today, so I'm in. All we have to do now is work out how we use it!
Thanks to Hannah
I'm on there now - under my actual real name - Colin Pierce. In case there are more than one of me my profile picture is me in a brown shirt at my desk looking serious with no hair and a beard.
I'm now on
I'm not sure how I'm going to use this in the future so I've registered under my real name - Nick Sydenham. You can still call me Handsome if you like.
Facebook replacement?
In order to slim down my bloated social network, I would really like to bin off Facebook. Is this new thing a viable, grown-up alternative - without all the silly games and such?
(I know I could just bin off Facebook anyway. But I'm shallow.)
Qualified yes
Yes, it's currently a viable, grown-up alternative - without all the silly games and such - there are some things that it does very elegantly, straddling the FB/Twitter divide - but it almost certainly won't be forever.
However, like you can on FB, I expect all the games will be blockable so you don't have to see them.
I remember when
I first started hearing about facebook - it was being described as a grown up myspace.
Is it just me...
...or does the thing keep freezing? Same problem this evening on both IE and Chrome.
You'd think it would work ok on Chrome...
I've joined
I had an invite and was waiting until the home page said they were taking people on again, but discovered that by clicking through on my invite email I got on anyway! Don't really know what it's all about but I'm going to start adding people and hope that your invitations to add extend to a lurker like me. :)
What's your Google+ name, Ruth?
I have added a few of you and
you've added me back - thank-you for that, don't feel so silly now with no one in my circles! If anyone else wants to add me, go ahead.
I'm not sure where it's all going but it's nice to be in it near the beginning isn't it! I was a late-comer to Facebook and Twitter and sort of felt I'd arrived at the party after all the introductions had been made and the food and drink were beginning to run out, whereas with Google+ it's like arriving at the party before the disco has started and everyone's still sober and a bit self-conscious!
Has anyone looked at this site
which shows who is popular on Google+. One of the first celebs you come across is William Shatner at #52!
http://socialstatistics.com/?include=toplist&number=100&kind=user-circle...
If you do a search for DogFacedBoy
you should find me. Or David Chandler. Look for the garish shirt
I'm hoping that it will make sense as more people join up. Its obviously meant to be more user friendly than Facebook and link in with gmail, Flickr etc etc. Its fortunate that people can't see the circles that you put them in. Am I a "friend" or an "aquaintance" to some of you "bastards"?
Damn thats the name of one of my custom circles revealed.
I've got you...
...under 'Sci-fi saddos'.
I'm fine with that
been called a lot worse
I've applied
can anyone who's been using it give me a quick "idiot's guide" please? What's better, worse, different than Twitter/Facebook?
Anybody try Ping? No?
Thanks!
