Gong, 1973 - I never glid before!
Posted by Nick Duvet on 27 August 2011 - 9:31am.
El Hombre's Kraftwerk thread has prompted me to post this, since I discovered it only today.
I have been listening to this album (Angel's Egg) for nearly 40 years and so it's kind of bizarre to suddenly find there is footage from the time of them actually playing it. Wonderful stuff.

Just got "L"
by Steve Hillage, have never investigated Gong..very early seventies
hippy strangeness..Nice post,I liked that very much I am a big fan of this tune by a band that featured Mr Hillage:
A Great album
and it has Todd Rundgren as producer with members of Utopia playing on various tracks.
Do yourself a big favour and go for Green. A truly wonderful (IMHO) album. Here's atempter for you. Enjoy.
Fantastic!
Nick, thanks so much for finding and sharing that clip! I think it probably comes from the "On French TV 1971-1973" DVD available from PlanetGong at http://www.planetgong.co.uk/gasmains/releases/recent.html - I can recommend the Steve Hillage 1977 DVD - a real delight, that one. The reunion DVDs (Hillage band, and Gong) from the 2006 Unconvention are also wonderful. I loved the Radio Gnome trilogy, back in the day, and it still holds up well, for me, now. Yes, including the goonish silliness!
it does hold up, yes
and with such a high quality of musicianship, that's no surprise. The 1972-75 band that included Hillage, Pierre Moerlen, Mike Howlitt, Didier Malherbe and Tim Blake was a group to rival any of the prog or jazz rock bands of the time.
