Goldfrapp - I like their new(ish) direction
Posted by DogFacedBoy on 17 February 2010 - 1:52am.
They've never really grabbed me before now despite the loveliness of Alison and the ooh la la stuff. But this unashamed pop song with the Van Halen 'Jump' keyboards and 80's vocals has wormed its way into my brain. Is that wrong of me?

I like it.
I also love the story about the music world measuring female artists' difficulty quotient on a scale of 'One to Goldfrapp'.
Obviously...
folk direction didnt sell enough
Irene Cara
sings Van Halen's Jump in her LA appartment reading a script for a film by Ridley Scott's brother who's trying to break into Hollywood.
maybe a bit more
Pat Benetar than Irene on the verses
Could be
I do like it though. Nice tune. But I've liked everything they've done regardless of its style.
I LOVE
Alison Goldfrapp. I feel better now.
I love Goldfrapp
and this is a fine pop song, but it sounds like a leftover from Supernature. Very Girls Aloud.
Hello DogFacedBoy ...
... you don't work for Mute Records do you? ;-)
Actually, happy to be alerted to a new Goldfrapp tune, so thanks ... (i look forward to the vid)
Work for Mute?
Can't say
*boom tish*
Nope its just one of those rare times you hear something on the radio and not sure what it is and don't think much to it the first time. After a couple more listens you find youself humming the chorus while you're walking the dog.
Good that she reinvents herself
but much as I like her she's never going to be a big star.
I liked that 'folky' album, but I didn't think it was very folk at all.
I'm surprised to discover she's now a lesbian. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but why do female artist dally in this and it's okay and she's just exploring herself, but if say, Bruce Springsteen announced he was seeing a man the world would grind to a halt?
Just asking.
I, too was surprised by the sapphic tales.
Gave me a happy moment or two, though.
If she ever fancies going back onto solids, I'll be waiting.
The song's a bit clunky, though. Given Will Gregory's fabulous talents as a writer and arranger, I'd have thought he'd lend a more subtle touch to it.
hah...
"If she ever fancies going back onto solids...."
*adds to list of Word Blog Bon Mots to pass off as ones own...*
Just found out she is only
a few years younger than me, 43 years! Wow, not only does she look fabulous she makes such lovely music. Perhaps there is hope for an old geezer like me?
I'll just watch the vid with the sound turned down (again)
:-)
Did you really watch it, though?
Really?
I can't see a new video on You Tube yet
so the answer is no
She's a
star.
