Going to see Horslips and yes it's probably time I grew up .......

"Isn't is time you grew up?"

Those were Mrs Beach's exact words.

My Brother in Law called earlier to tell me that he had a ticket spare for Horslips at Belfast's Waterfont Hall on 1/12. A flight was immediately booked and I am off to see a band who until last year hadn't been seen on a stage together for 30 years. I really can't recall the last time I looked forward to a gig with such excitement and indeed apprehension.

Btw is there any Irish member of the massive who Horslips weren't the first band they saw?

Yes...

but I'm 36, so that might explain it!

Two pals of mine, saw 'em in the The Venue Formerly Known As The Point in Dublin last year; both said they positively rocked. You have, by all accounts, a great night ahead of you.

Mind You

I'd be going to see them in the Dublin O2 in December if it wasn't for the fact I've already got a ticket for the National on the same night

A bit before my time too

but have sampled a bit of them through You Tube and Spotify - as an adjunct to my mild folk obsession of last year. Can't say I'm overly taken but another Irish band of a similar, slightly earlier vintage and of a folk-rock bent - Sweeney's Men - are jolly good.

Where's that Colin H when you need him?

yup, me too

Irish - check
Horslips first band I saw - check. It was at Liverpool St Georges Hall and my evening was made for me when Johnny Fean wandered out of the building, presumably after the sound check, and asked me if I knew where he could get a cup of tea and something to eat. I didn't but he thanked me courteously anyway and went on his way.

Second gig I saw - Rory Gallagher, naturally...

Irish - 43 (for a few more days anyway)

Horslips were one of the few bands who played the small town I grew up in But I was too young to go.... Love the music though.
