God, I love summer...

Gavin Adam's picture

...and I know it's a little premature but we have barbecued for the last two nights and it feels like high summer. Tonight we had piri-piri prawns cooked on the barbecue with a rice salad and some piccolo tomatoes with basil and shallots. Of course the bottle of Sardinian White wine may have helped, but what's not to like about sitting out in the late evenIng sunshine listening to the birds settling down for the evening. And, it's only April!

Am I alone?

We've had a gorgeous day here Gavin - I absolutely agree with you.

Heavy rain and hail.

You can stick your shallots right up yer piri-piri . . .

The asparagus is early as well!

I've eaten loads this last week. And my wee smells funny and I don't care.

Bring on the first wet garlic and the Alphonse mangos. And Jersey Royals and decent Spring lamb. My thyme, rosemary and bay bushes are already going potty. Fabulous eating to be had over the next few weeks.

The Southsea seafront is going to be jammed all weekend. Fantastic. Everyone in proper holiday mood.

This is all very good.

Asparagus - Possibly urban myth alert

My father in law always says that there was a sign in a gentleman's club in London that said

"Would gentlemen kindly refrain from pissing in the umbrella stands during the asparagus season"

Anyway, "My wee smells funny and I don't care" would make a fantastic album title . . .

I too love summer

...and that love is only strengthened by that fact that I live in f*cking Lancashire where, true to form, the skies are weeping again after an uncharacteristically glorious week. If the last few years are anything to go by, that was summer.

Bah, humbug, etc..

I am the Summer Grinch.

Anything above 22 degrees is unacceptable. Wasps, mozzies and hayfever. Yuck.

Grilled food and cold beer on the patio are a small compensation, though.
