Glastonbury: The Aftermath

It seems that Janelle Monae has had the most successful Glastonbury as far as subsequent sales go. This is, I feel, a very good thing.

Wither Morrissey?
Who knows how many thousands of percent his sales figures may have climbed by had he decided to keep his shirt on...
Am I the only one ...
...unhappy with the use of percentages to express massive increases in sales figures? When percentages go above 100, confusion never seems very far behind.
If I sell 100 records this week and 200 next week, that's a 100 increase, or 100%. In other words a 100% increase represents a doubling of sales. But the common perception, I think, is that a doubling of sales is the same as a 200% rise.
So what, excatly, does a 4,928% rise in sales for Janelle Monae actually mean?
Sorry if this is all a bit anal, and happy to be corrected.

Indeed...
But shedloads

Well, indeed...
...but I think there are simpler and clearer ways of expressing large increases. Like a 50 times increase in the sales or whatever, which, I assume, is pretty much what they mean. It's a pedantic point, perhaps, but the media uses percentages in this way all the time, and it's not very helpful if there's no consensus on what it means.
4928% is roughly 50 times....
...whatever she was selling before.
So, obviously if you're selling 1 copy and then sell 50, this is good but hardly life changing. She deserves it though - best act of the weekend.
.....emerges from hole.......
.....is Gla......the 'G' word......over yet?
Was is muddy?
Did Bruce Springsteen play for 18 or 19 hours this time?
Was Paddington Bear the surprise hit of the festival?
My telly decided to break down on Thursday and it will be back working tomorrow (Tuesday) in time for the French countryside (aka Le Tour de France) on Saturday.....and they say there isn't a God.
John Grant and Janelle Monae for me
I only saw John Grant do one song (Sigourney Weaver?)on the BBC coverage but it was one of those moments that made me sit up straight and pay attention - fantastic.
I was aware his album was highly regarded amongst the music press and on here but never investigated it further. Of course I am now cursing my ignorance.
Janelle Monae was by far the best visual performance of the weekend on television although I am not so convince I would listen to her album and enjoy it as much without the show element. Under £5 on Amazon though so worth a punt.
Janelle Monae
Any chance of her standing still for one second?
