Has anyone heard the debut album by this American duo. There are some superlative reviews of this one doing the rounds.

Whilst reading about them, cannot get visions/nightmares of the Polyphonic Spree out of my head.

Literally ‘quite good’

I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I even listened all the way through twice back to back...

I’m not sure it’s worthy of all the 5* reviews but it’s pleasantly lo-fi Californian psychedelic pop with hints of the Beach Boys and Buddy Holly. It all comes with bittersweet lyrics and a bit of a ‘on a knife edge’ feeling so you’re not quite sure if they’ll get to the end of a the track with out collapsing . They always do, and there are some nice twists on the way.

Plus it’s up on emusic for next to nothing.

A genuinely good record...

A bit wayward and cracked at times and, as Paul Thompson says, sounds like it's on the verge of collapse, but the tunes are great. Hellhole Ratrace is my favourite, all 7(!) minutes of it.

Don't be put off by the hype and the backstory - it's all about the music, man.

I took delivery of the album this morning

eight quid on Play and it's a corker.

Don't think there is any

Don't think there is any Polyphonic Spree in there but I do hear the odd bit of Small Faces gone psychedelic. Saw them live in an in-store and they do "wig out" a bit more than on the album.
