Gillian Welch & David Rawlings
Posted by Railroad Bill on 19 October 2009 - 4:13pm.
I'm guessing there are more than a few Gillian Welch and David Rawlings fans out there??? Although still no word of a new G.W album (6 years, 4 months and counting...) thought I would point you in the direction of an album out on November 17 by D.R's side project "Dave Rawlings Machine" (featuring Gillian amonst others...) Yey!!!

Maybe this is the reason that it's been a long time coming?
I hope...
I think you may be right big stevie (if I may call you that?)but I hope the key line in the song is, "we're gonna do it anyway,
even if doesn't pay".
I was there!
I saw that show. My second visit to Merlefest, in 2006. G&W played the main stage the day before and had Emmylou Harris as a guest but their sound got lost in such a big crowd with a lot of audience chatter. They following day I was up for watching someone else but my pal Dave wanted to see G&D at the Creekside. It only seats about 250 people and he suggested we sit through the whole of the previous set , a singer-songwriter workshop just to get a seat. By the time G&D came on there were literally thousand of people there, I'v heard estimated of between 3.5 and 6 thousand. As you can see from the vid they opened up the back of the stage which is usually reserved for performers only. There were people climbing trees, and on every available inch of ground at the little Creekside ampitheatre
The show was just awesone from start to finish. They played an entirely different set from the day before, and were both on top form. The crowd were up for it from the start. You could hear a pin drop during the songs. My particular highlight was "By the mark" but I remember the whole show was magical. I've seen a lot of gigs over the last 40 years and that was in my top 5
The line-up for Merlefest 2010 is being announced this Friday. Some people reckon its not the Festival it used to be, but I just love it and have been 4 times in the last 5 years. The dollar is probably not in our favour, but my advice would be, if you can afford it, go!!
Those two are so fabulous...
and produce music as good as anything I've ever heard.
Writer's block?
I'd given up looking at their website for news of a new album and a UK tour. 6 years plus is a long time.
However I don't think that, despite the sentiment of Everything Is Free, that is the reason for the lack of output. Not putting new music out just encourages more bootlegging, and there are some fine boots out there. However I've not seen any boots with new material on them, although in the last year or so I've not been very active searching for torrents.
