Getting hold of CDs is getting harder

kgb's picture

I've been trying for a while to get the new Peter Bruntnell CD and ordered it on Amazon. However its been unavailable for 4 weeks and i keep getting an email advising me of the delay. Also cant find anyone selling the Gary Louris / mark Olson CD.

Wondered if others are having the same trouble getting either these CDs or indeed other ones. Distribution problems cant be helping these artists

Peter Bruntnell

I ordered it direct from his label's store (http://loosemusic.com/) and received it after a few days. However, I've had a few things from Amazon that have taken forever to arrive.
I know it's not much help but Bruntnell's new album is well worth the wait.

still waiting for a cd from HMV

oredered in July . Jim White - Transnormal skiperoo - downloaded it but left it on order and its ' out of stock - on special order' . glad you have raised this as Pete Bruntnell is next on the list- perhaps a good point to raise on his facebook page.

Delays

I pre-ordered a book from Amazon in October 2004, and I'm still waiting four years later. Very occasionally Amazon send me apologetic e-mails, asking if I'm sure I want to keep the order open, and I do, mainly to amuse myself.

You were...

making plans for Norbert.

You can buy the Louris/Olsen one here:

http://www.spincds.com/
And probably a few others too.

I very much doubt

that you can buy the Olson/Louris at all at the moment. It's not out until January!

There's been some confusion because it was originally due a September/October release on a label called Hacktone, but a bigger label, New West, have now snapped it up and have put the release date back to coincide with a bigger tour that the duo are doing (apparently) next year.

I've seen a couple of Hacktone promo versions of the album going on eBay for big money recently.

Lesser known artists.....

...tend often to rely on their own sites/their label sites rather than Amazon and the big boys, presumably as the distrubutors are less interested and the retailers take fewer chances. I have found many an album earlier and cheaper in this way.
The added bonus is that you will also often then discover otherwise entirely unavailable tracks and albums, mini produced for the faithful.

Tool, a prog-metal band

The biggest obscure band on the planet. Their third and fourth albums went to number one in America (album four got to 4 in the UK). Unfortunately finding their first three albums in a shop is close to impossible. I believe this is because they were released on a minor label while their fourth album, which is well stocked in shops, is released through Sony.

REM say that the reason they signed with Warner after all those years on IRS was because people kept telling them at gigs that they couldn't find their CDs in the shops. Warner had the distribution muscle so REM signed with them.

I find it fascinating that their's a clutch of brilliant female fronted pop bands recording very mainstream (with a very, very slight indie slant) music but can't seem to sell any albums. Long Blondes got to 44 and 48 in the album charts with their two albums. New Young Pony Club 54. Ladyhawke got to 47. Pathetic chart placings. Even if you account for illegal downloading, it's still terrible. I can only assume their one and only handicap is that they're not on major labels so they don't have the marketing budget, the radio airplay and the prominent shop displays so people just don't know they exist. These bands have a realistic chance at top ten chartings if they had the exposure they need.

The 2CD edition of the new Dylan

bootleg series proved difficult for me to find in our small local branches of Zavvi n HMV - plenty of the rather pointless single CD edition. Finally picked one up in a Borders store. No wonder more people are just buying online

Interesting as I was in HMV

and picked up the new Dylan release just to have a look at it. I thought it was odd that it didn't have a cardboard sleeve on it like the others in the series. Then I noticed the single disc logo on the front. I didn't see any 2CD versions on the shelves.

The cover photograph is horrible.

Peter Bruntnell

Good to see someone from Loose (Peter Bruntnell's label) taking the time to post on this board and may an effort to sort out kgb's problem in getting hold the album.
You don't get that sort of service from the head of Sony when it comes to hassle with Dylan albums.

Its enough to make me want to buy it!

OK, I was going to anyway, probably, given the reviews, the Word free track and the fact that he is right up my street, but, nonetheless, balance tipped.

Can I just ask - has it always appeared as unavailable on the Amazon site, or is it available but they keep mailing you to say they can't source it? Sorry for the boring question, but it's my job!

I ordered

Sharon Jones 'Naturally' about 4 weeks ago from Amazon - they tell me it will not be with me for another 4 weeks worst case scenario. Annoying thing is I just came back from USA - they had it over there but I didnt buy it because I thought it would be here when I got back.
