Get your socks on get your socks on...
And have a milky drink and an oaty biscuit, honey.....
Having on a rough estimate almost 270 years of life experience between them and having been pop stars most of their adult lives, Bobby “did I mention MC5 yet” Gillespie and Primals are on the NME “Rock and Roll Riot” tour. Is it just me is this just sad, I’m assuming that if Bobby does start a riot it won’t be within 200 yards of his gaff in case it wakes the kids.
Also aren’t we having a bit of reinvention here as for first 4-5 years of their existence the Primals were the most indie schmindie whey fey c86 band going the sort Lemmy has in his morning JD instead of breakfast .
So Bobby didn’t join a rock and roll band to get away from his roots he formed Tallulah Gosh’s library study pals.
And thing is I don’t mind their music I just wish BG would knock off the “last gunslingers in town riding the rock revolution to a Punk apocalypse shtick”.
It’s not about growing up it perhaps about showing some kind of self awareness, that or they should accept the inevitable and become the Ramones and be entertaining but stuck in aspic version of their 1975 selves. I don’t think you can be perpetually new and still think like you did when you are 15. Or can you?

Heil Gillespie
He's always been a joke, Gillespie. The big problem is that he - and he alone - takes himself, and all that rock 'n' roll mythology bullshit, quite seriously. But the worst thing about him for me is that he's also an anti-Semite (as demonstrated by his replacing the word 'Poverty' with 'Israel' on a load of 'Make Poverty History' posters at the Reading Festival).
That said,, I've always quite liked Primal Scream's cartoonish music - even the new one's pretty good. Utterly forgettable, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Leave in Silence
Levels of rock'n'roll fuckwittery reached critical levels when Primal Scream supported Depeche Mode on the US leg of the Devotional tour. I recall reading somewhere that Dave Gahan's debauchery even outdid that of Gillespie. All very silly. Get your hair cut, Dave, you're from Basildon you pillock.
It's easy
to criticise Primal Scream, but the bottom line is that they're a fantastic live band. Their double-bill with the MC5 this summer is my gig of the year so far.
funny thing is
I've seen them a number of times (in all their guises) and seem to have missed their good gigs it must be my bad luck. Did bobby try to stow away in the '5 flight cases?
The thing is...(also)
The music press have NEVER taken him to task for his bandwagon-jumping.
The collective fawning that greeted "Screamadelica" was appalling. I clearly remember having a Will Ferrell "Mugatu" moment..."Is everyone taking crazy pills..anything that's half decent is from other musicians..the lyrics are crap". Then the sub-Stones routine..again, not a word from the press..
