Be warned, if you are of any kind of obsessive nature (and I suspect most of the Massive are), you risk a lost weekend on this site. It can be as compulsive as YouTube.
missed out heaps of the Caribbean and the north of South America
an embarrassing amount of Africa (and couldn't spell Equatorial Guinea)
some Euro tiddlers (Vatican, Monaco etc) and glaring screw ups (Iceland, Hungary)
couldn't spell Phillippines and missed a bunch of Micronesian bits & bobs
is there an average for this game?
edit: found the stats ... am a little bit sceptical that 24.5% of those who do the quiz get 187-195 countries right without cheating (Google, spelling, maps) within the 15 min time limit
my biggest bloopers were Iceland, Cuba, Madagascar, Mongolia, Paraguay, Thailand & Colombia - more than 75% of people who do the quiz get those right
The 24.5% is believable once you realise that there's a whole Sporcle community out there - a Massive if you will - who spend far too much time on the site and are now way too familiar with Sao Tome and Principe, the use of Timor Leste for East Timor and the spelling of all the Stans. You'll find that Kyrgyzstan is a kind of in joke along the lines of TMTFL or, whisper it soft, arpeggios. Sporclers probably can't believe there's a website where people spend so much time mulling over The Mahavishnu Orchestra.
i shall look upon my 60.2% (first time, no cheating, 15 mins, no practice, off top of head) with a warm glow of pride - until i find most people score 75% plus under similar conditions ;-)
15 minutes is a hell of a scramble isn't it? Especially when you can't touch type. It would have been 137 if I'd worked out how to spell Kyrgyzstan, and if I hadn't wasted valuable time trying three different spellings, I'd have just managed to squeeze Burkina Faso in (and that's a phrase I never thought I'd say).
I suspect I'll have another go at some point. And I'll have a go at capitals, I'm quite good on them. I think.
...but I got 166. I do know my countries, and I worked round continent by continent. I'm a superfast typer, so that helped. But I don't think anyone could get them all in 15 minutes, no matter how good their geography or typing. Despite my methodical approach, I still missed some "easier" ones such as Senegal, Cambodia - and even Afghanistan. (I only slipped Russia in at the last second - the elephant in the room).
I've had two goes at this. First time I got stuck at 43, Jamaica, a real mindfart. I might have got it eventually but decided to give up. Second time I got stuck at 66, Latvia (which I'm amazed is that high frankly). I might give it another go if I can be arsed
I got 115 first attempt, off the top of my head and that.
Got tied up with some spellings. I have MS so struggle with right handed typing though. Away to have another go. It's looking like a lost Wednesday evening for me...
In the time allowed...
122.
Very
but geography is my thing.

But come on, you've got to have a go at this ...

Harder than it looks
115. Some very glaring errors on my part.
196
But I've done this quiz at least 196 times.
116
Missed some blinders.
Hmmm
I thought 108 wasn't bad, but seems I'm the dunce of the class so far!
I was terrible on Africa, the Carribean, the -stans and Polynesia.
Had to google how to spell Kyrgyzstan, which turns out to be the most 'obscure' country I got (only 46.6% get it, apparently).
Most 'obvious' one I missed was Mongolia (80.4%)
Only 92
I could have got to 100 if I'd been able to spell them.
118

Those 24.5%
are like me and have done it an enormous number of times. I usually have about 4 minutes left over.
The complete World Capitals is slightly more difficult, and Capitals + Countries is the best of the lot.
Lies, damned lies and statistics

Need to brush up on Africa, and the islands, and South America, well, most of it actually. Also spent too long trying to spell Krygyzstan
Not long enough
by the looks of it. :}
Sorry, I couldn't resist. Hey, I was only saying what everyone else etc.
I'll leave the building now.
Also pretty poor
108 as well.
In mitigation was disturbed by the kids a couple of times and had some spelling issues.
Capital cities progressively harder

Most obvious ommision: Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, and several others as the score attests
I can't spell: Jamaica
Is Greenland not a seperate country?
according to Wikipedia: "an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark" - does that mean it is or isn't?
65
An honest but piss-poor effort, I should have waited a couple of minutes before clicking start as I'd easily have got seventy
Africa got me, completely useless and I can't spell for toffee
Oi
I don't need anyone to spell for me!
Excuses, excuses
I got 115 first attempt, off the top of my head and that.
Got tied up with some spellings. I have MS so struggle with right handed typing though. Away to have another go. It's looking like a lost Wednesday evening for me...
Am I doing it wrong?
Doesn't work for me. I'm using Safari on my MacBook.
99 and very frustrated
I re-set my target to 100 with a couple of minutes left and had 28 seconds to get the 100th but my mind went blank. If only I'd thought of Ireland!!!!
I played the Duke Of Edinburgh variation.
