Edit: sorry, for those who can't see the YouTube embed (which is me, half the time) it's Domenico Modugno singing Volare (Nel blu dipinto di blu), the Italian entry which came third in '58.
But not in Eurovision. Always loved this song since I received a promo copy single from EMI. It was only years later I realised it was Belgium's entry.
and Ding Dinge Dong, a quality stab at emulating Abba. Of course Anne-Marie David, Vicky Leandros and Gina G. This delight, though, came 3rd in 1974....
My absolute favourite of 2009 - never made it to the finals (scandalous!): Marko Kon & Milan Nikolic - Cipela.
I'm in love with the singer. He's the lovechild of Barry White and Kurt Wagner, he shakes his ass in a strangely contagious way and this song is funky... I'm not ashamed to admit to owning this track!
Anne-Marie David
Tu te Reconnaitras
Big and melodic. It's the brief piano break that does it for me
The correct answer...
...is France Gall, probably.
But Gina G, Just a Little Bit, is a stonker, too.
Oh just remembered
I created an Alternative Eurovision playlist some years back. Always good to discover the bobbins stuff on there and add new ones.

Millions
Its been particularly good in the last 10 years - looking forward to tonight!
Try these for starters
AND
You might know this one...

from 2003
Ruffus - 80's coming back
One of the few Eurovisions that I've ever actually watched, I was genuinely annoyed that this failed to win.
I love that Rufus song.
I love that Rufus song.
1977 - the year of punk
But not in Eurovision. Always loved this song since I received a promo copy single from EMI. It was only years later I realised it was Belgium's entry.
Dream Express - A Million In 1-2-3
Scraping a very shallow barrel here but..
always thought The Shads effort was pretty decent.
I Know It Won But I Still Like It
Agreed
Its a great song
Last years winner Satellite is good too
Teach - In
and Ding Dinge Dong, a quality stab at emulating Abba. Of course Anne-Marie David, Vicky Leandros and Gina G. This delight, though, came 3rd in 1974....
THATS!
A young Danny Baker under all that hair!
Bana Bana - Turkey entry 1989
This has stuck with me for the last 20 years or more. Bring back the orchestra/mad conductor. Brilliant.
LT United from Lithuania.
Very tongue-in-cheek!
Sebastien Tellier - Divine from 2008
Can't beileve that no one has linked to this yet
Here's a couple
First the amazing Remedios Amaya from Spain ( nil points! )
And then the more recent Mor Ve Ötesi from Turkey
Both wonderful for real.
Vicky Leandros
Oh, and then there was this...
Serbian funk...I like it (ignore the dancers!)
A truly excellent song
If you hadn't seen the wacky Eurovision stage show and you'd heard this at the local indie disco you'd bloody love it.
Top tune.
Azerbailan anyone?
This is...
...the entry that should have won it for Germany years ago.
German C&W rocks. The album's pretty good to!
This is a cracker, as was the Eurodance cover version.
Love Shine A Light was good as well.
