Gedge's Blood On The Tracks and Fine Wine
Being a miserable and cantankerous old sod, I dismissed the comeback of The Wedding Present in around 2005 as being the final, desperate act of a near-middle aged man, a sort of indie mid-life crisis, so I never gave any of their records a listen at the time. However...
I have just heard their 2005 comeback album, Take Fountain, and it's absolutely astonishing. Way, way better than their output at their Peel-endorsed peak and the best album I've heard in years. Age and experience (both Dave Gedge's and my own) seem to have added to the poignancy of listening to someone pouring out their heart over a break-up and it's an absolutely heartbreaking experience.
Anyway, my point is...are there any other artists out there that have actually improved with age? I can't think of any but I can now.

Sorry chaps
I can't add anything much other than ringing endorsement of how brilliant Take Fountain is (however El Rey is not a patch so beware) Madness' new stuff is pretty good though but whether it is better than One Step Beyond is a debate to be had
Nick Lowe.
His last four albums are not only better than anything he's ever done before (OK, Jesus Of Cool is pretty, well, cool) but better than almost everything else.
the great one and only
XTC
Go-Betweens
Six stunning albums, 11 year gap, then 3 more brilliant albums - shame there can't be any more.
Tom Waits
Started out pretending to be old, then got old, while retaining - remarkably - enough credibility to dabble with beatboxing and hip-hop collaborations. The last decade has been the best of his career.
The House Of Love and Dinosaur Jr
both made comeback albums in the last few years that equal anything in their careers.
Elvis Costello
Momofuku - very good.
Wings
The band The Beatles could have been.
