Gear Porn: 1957 Hammond C3
Posted by stimpy on 6 September 2011 - 4:46pm.
In my opinion, there's no finer sound in music than a Hammond C3/B3 and here's why.
I realise that the recent '40 noises...' feature included the Hammond bubble but there's something about the sound of the Leslie cab spinning up.
AND it makes a nice but of furniture as well

Not far wrong. I've always loved them.
And it's an instrument and a sound which fits in so well with so many different forms of music. One of my favourites is in Ribcage by Elbow where it sounds like they've got the Hammond at the bottom of a stairwell and the mic at the top with everything wound up to the point where you can smell smoke coming off the transformer windings. A fabulous, fabulous sound.
And that's me in that clip up there.
Honest.
Good to see
you're well enough for some gear porn Stimpy. Hope it made you feel as good as it did me when I watched it. Should help the recovery no end.
Platform 2

The Godfather of Soul's
weapon of choice. Play the organ Mr Brown.
Love the bum notes on the horns.
Bum notes ?
Does that have anything to do with the fact that the still of that video is a candidate for Pop Stars Breaking Wind ?
B3 heaven
I'm with this one all the way.
Here's another:
Georgie Fame -plays a mean riff and tells great stories!

Great clip Stimpy and nice to see you back. I agree, next to the sound of a good brass band, the sound is unbeatable. Great work with the feet on the pedals too. Sometimes, one tends to forgot that organ players have some tricky pedal work to master with their feet.

Welcome back.
