Friends of the freak zone
All this discussion about what is music - such and such is just noise etc, shows that there are those among us who like a bit of the left-field, weird and wonderful, maybe unlistenable to some. The sort of thing you might hear on Stuart Maconie's 'Freak Zone' show on 6-Music. So what is your one person's noise but my music, or just bizarre flight of fancy that you can find the intoxicating pattern in where others are bewildered, or maybe it's just something off the beaten track?
Here's some suggestions:
Albums-
Soft Machine 'Third' - The best Soft Machine album? Jazzy but not jazz rock
Prince Far-I 'Cry Tuff Dub Encounter Part 2' - Imaginative dub reggae with sheep noises
Track-
Velvet Underground 'I Heard Her Call My Name' - Wild, exciting feedback guitar

Early Gorky's
A lovely mix of tear-jerking melody and gonzo playfulness - c.f. "If Fingers Were Xylophones"
of course - The Mighty "Fall"
The Field
Superficially, just another nerd with a sampler. It should be cold and unwelcoming but for some odd reason it's the most engaging electronica/dance music - or perhaps that should be "music in inverted commas" - that I've heard for years. (No, I'm not a big Burial or dubstep fan. Sorry.)

Has a certain atmosphere. Made me think of this (not that much of a Freak Zone type track perhaps) - The Knife 'Silent Shout', which I am rather keen on. Another somewhat David Lynchesque video:
