French Chanteuses CD

There was a CD released about a year or so ago featuring French chanteuses of the 60s. I recall Stuart Maconie reviewing it in Word. Anyone remember it - I wnat to buy it as a present.

Yep, it's called "La Belle Epoque" - EMI's French Girls 1965-68

I picked it up after reading Monsieur Maconie's review. Very good it is too.
At the risk of sounding a bit dodgy, may I recommend Alizee's newie ("Psychedlices?" Pardon my spelling) If you're a sucker for a French voice, she always does the business!

Pauline Croze

Also very good but in a contemporary way. If you try hard, you can probably imagine she's singing in black and white.

I bought it

and regretted it.

Moi?

Je ne regrette rien.

Femmes de Paris

Is also really good. There are 2 volumes, I think, although some of the same tracks appear as on La Belle Epoque (which, by the way, is worth buying purely for Ria Bartok's swoonsome Ecoute Mon Coeur).

If you like sexy french

voices and a bit of Arabian/Eastern European mystery then buy Jane Birkin's Arabesque - it is sublime.

Despite anything else ...

Carla Bruni's Quelqu'un m'a dit (as featured in The Word) is also gorgeous.
