Forgotten gems of the 90's
Posted by ganglesprocket on 22 July 2011 - 7:56pm.
Idly going about my business today with my ipod on shuffle, this gem came on, which I had forgotten I had.
The 90's get short thrift in these parts, but it was my own coming of age era. So please post some other forgotten gems of the decade that produced music other than Britpop...

I suddenly remembered this...
Beneath the Undertow by Isotope 217°. I haven't heard it in over 10 years but it still sounds good to these ears...
I have never heard of this lot.
It sounds good to these ears to. Jazzy drum and bass, none more 90s!
Garbage - Milk
Not exactly forgotten but a tad overlooked since:
For my money
the best album to come out of America in the 90s. Gravediggaz - Niggamortis. This is Diary Of A Madman
Can I slip a
fag end of the 80s one in?
If so:
Git down!
From The Best album Of The 90's Waterpistol by Shack
I have played this six times every day
in the car, for about three months. I never tire of it, or posting it here. I will keep posting it until Shack reform and are acclaimed as one of the top three bands of all time. Unfortunately, I'll be posting it for some time on that rationale.
(Shack - Comedy)
Totally Agree
A sadly overlooked band who never had any luck but had talent and tunes by the shedful.
Always had a really soft spot for this 1997 song:
(White Town, "Your Woman")
Long one, but worth listening to the full thing
A summer evening sound
Buju Banton
Here's a few.....
Ooberman
one of the best, from the deep nineties
You'd have to expect an "up" from me for that.
Surely it has to be this ....
.... plus he's a close personal friend of Mark 'Marky' Ellen
I've changed my mind, it's this
the 90s was better than I thought
The Mavericks
Oooh, cracking
How about the Gigolo Aunts?
Or indeed Eric Matthews?
Powerpoptastic.
Gigolo Aunts. Quality.
everything
by the tindersticks
Good calls above
90s? Now you're talking my language!
I fear all my stuff will be indie though...
Good calls above
Money Mark - bought the album after hearing this, though nothing quite grabbed me as much
Gigolo Aunts - got a couple of singles of there's, 'Where I Find My Heaven' was a real favourite.
White Town's hit - great song.
How about these...
Teenage Fanclub - Some People Try To Fuck With You
(Possibly forgotten as it's a b-side, but still a great band, a good now as ever).
The Candy Skins Monday Morning
Echobelly Dark Therapy
Rialto Untouchable
Ultrasound Stay Young
(They've just got back together by the way.)
Gene Where Are They Now
Puressence This Feeling
My Life Story Strumpet
*EDIT* Sorry, got a bit carried away there!
hey
That's great news about Ultrasound; I loved that Everything Picture album back in the day.
Excellent album!
You can hear their new single here:

I do wish people would label Youtube clips
Was trying to view this thread on an Android phone earlier and it was like doing one of Brookster's quizzes!
Sorry old chap!
I don't have a smart phone, didn't realize that vids don't come up...
Some good stuff here by the way, plenty I haven't heard before. And I had forgotten all about The Gravediggaz...
No probs
I've been guilty of same when posting Youtubes. On my smartphone you get the freezeframe from the video but no label, so you have to try to work out who it is. I felt quite proud of myself for identifying Robyn Hitchcock and Money Mark...
File under criminally underrated
The soundtrack to my teens. Could've been big but spent a large part of their heyday in a refreshed state, battling with their record label and splitting up/reforming every ten seconds.
Just as excellent...
The Stairs
Fall Down The Rain
Not a forgotten
song, but with added John Power harmonies and a sung solo.
I love the La's.
Mulu - Pussycat
A bit Dubstar-y in that it's an attractive woman singing over a nice beat.
Time by Marion
The other Macc lads.
Did well in the US, not so here.
Was played to death in the early days of Virgin. Fine, fine song. Dionne Farris. I Know What You're Doing.
An extraordinarily brilliant lyric
Black Star Liner - "Superfly And Bindi"
Rarely heard about this lot back then but they made a couple of fine albums, "Bengali Bantam Youth Experience" in particular took up prolonged residence on my stereo.
Hot Topic - Le Tigre
Sneaks in at 1999
Mono
I love this lp, one of my favourites from the 90s.
