For no good reason...

Doug B's picture

other than the fact that I've never heard the wonderful Joe Pernice mentioned on here.

A fellow Pernice devotee

Ah, you must have missed me contributing Overcome By Happiness to the great pop albums thread (and nominating 7:30 as a perfect power pop song).

I've seen him perform many times, with and without his band, in places like the Social, the Borderline and the Garage and he never fails to deliver. A nice bloke too. He even has the best guitarist that nobody's ever heard of (James Walbourne) in his band nowadays.

I shall now go and don my 'I hate my life' t-shirt and find the 1000th person to spread the gospel of Bum Leg to.

I haven't seen him do that one for a while

But if you get him on one of his solo shows, just ask him.

Regrets, I've had a few

and one of them was a show that saw Jimmy Webb top of the bill with David Scott of the Pearlfishers and Joe Pernice as support. Sadly 9/11 saw to that (it was scheduled in Glasgow for something like 20/9/01) so it never happened. Still have the ticket, still want to see Pernice.

Great version of a fantastic song.

You can really hear the Yiddish folk song influence in Pernice's version that writers the Sherman brothers talked about.

What a soundtrack that was. It's heartwarming to see my own kids loving the songs too. Timeless.

Pernice!

I've mentioned him more than once! I'm a massive fan. "Let That Show" is one of the greatest songs ever written, and I will brook no argument in this matter. Oh, apart from "Courage Up". Oh, and "The Weakest Shade of Blue". And...

The World Won't End

Was just listening to the second Pernice Brothers' LP at the weekend - every one a winner. That, and Overcome By Happiness, and Live A Litle are all wonderful.

He played here around 9/11 as well, a solo show that was to have been a full band show. He did the most mighty version of New Order's Love Vigilantes which I'd love to hear him do again.

Re: James Walbourne - I actually prefer when Peyton is the lead guitarist in the band, he just seems to improve already brilliant songs.
