Food reads

John Connolly's picture

I know that it's frowned upon (rightly so, IMHO) to discuss other music magazines on this forum but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent food magazine to me. I've tried delicious and bon appetit but neither of them really do it for me. I've heard good things about Saveur but I've never actually seen a copy so don't know what to make of that.

I think I remember Fraser discussing a quarterly magazine here some time ago but I'm jiggered if I can remember it or find it on a search.

Anybody come across a decent food mag that they'd recommend?

Cheers in advance.

Depends

...what you want. I'm a recipe hoarder so I used to really like delicious, but since a new editor took over I think it's gone rapidly downhill. Olive is lively and fun but assumes I am female (I am not).

Fire and Knives is very good, quite educational and thought-provoking - less of the tabloid recipe stuff as above.

Ditto the Fire & Knives

It's really quite good.

Also, although it's not a mag, don't forget some of the best food writing ever from MFK Fisher.

Double ditto

Another thumbs up for Fire & Knives. Scratches a similar sort of itch for food as The Word does for music.

That's the one!

Fire and Knives - that's the one that I think Fraser mentioned before.

Excellent - as always the Massive has the answer!

Many thanks.

Jamie Magazine.....

.... is the best of the bunch, in my opinion.

Another up for F&K

It's not cheap (it carries no advertising) but it is a very rewarding read.

And it doesn't have any recipes in it.
