Flight of the Conchords + Michel Gondry = amazingness

Andrew Harrison's picture

These are two of our favourite things: Flight Of The Conchords and noted director Michel Gondry (Be Kind Rewind, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, videos for Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers and Björk).

Gondry has directed an episode of the Conchords' upcoming second series and here are a couple of advance clips. We think he has kicked the band's already peculiar worldview up several magnificent notches – and surely 'Too Many Dicks On The Dancefloor' would make a club hit it its own right?

Too Many Dicks

Truth be told, the first minute or so is actually far superior tech house than anything put out by Deadmau5, Mark Knight or Sebastien Leger recently.

And I love the MAW-tastic congas that come in after "dudes in a conga line".

I'm a bit nervous for FotC Season 2

I adored the first series but I'm worried they'll suffer from second-season syndrome.

I haven't looked at the above clips (Youtube's blocked at work - curses!) but I've seen a full episode from earlier in the season. The show was just as funny but the songs were a little weak; I have my fingers crossed for the Gondry collaboration

Season 2

Via the luxury of lax Spanish laws and the wonder of Bit Torrent, I'm up to date with season 2 (episode 5 is waiting on my PC at home). And although none of the songs stand out (as in, I can't think of any titles/tunes at the moment of writing), it's still one of the funniest things on "TV".

Spain

The country where the TV's so bad, people put it in scare quotes.

not what I meant

but perfectly true.

I actually meant that although it's a TV programme, I'm watching it on a monitor.... but I probably wouldn't feel the need to download US programmes if Spanish TV wasn't so awful.

I do own the first season on DVD though, and I'm sure they get more money from that than when it's shown on TV.

That's what I assumed

But I can never resist applying the principle of not letting logical interpretation get in the way of a weak joke.

Jemaine and Bret

are currently some of my heroes. Been watching the boxed set on heavy rotation. Although I have to say Rhys Darby steals it every time he walks into a scene. I noticed he is starting to make some Hollywood appearances.

"Too Many Man"...

... great stuff. Looking forward the 2nd series.

Thanks for posting.

I was a latecomer

just finished the DVD box set of season 1 and absolutely loved it - the best comedy I've seen for years.
Now why can't us Brits make something as good as this?

So many great one-liners and lyrics, not forgetting the little musical in-jokes. The performances of Murray and Mel the Stalker are superb too!

Songs are excellent too, my favourite being "Muthauckas", it's so catchy that I find myself singing aloud "too many muthauckas ucking with my shi" at the most inopportune moments!

"Now why can't us Brits make something as good as this?"

...Well, it was on Radio 2 first, of course - I think it was offered to the BBC, but they turned it down...Probably would have eaten into the "...2 pints of lager..." budget.
