Entertainment For Lively Minds
FINISHED!!!!! The Wire
Posted by Iainso on 2 October 2009 - 10:21am.
Now I can join in the discussions on what many are calling the best tv series ever. First question I would like to ask, who do you feel was the most complete character in the series?
For me it was Frank Subotca in series 2. A seriously flawed man, but I felt his pain.
Any thoughts, or should I just trawl the myriad other threads on the subject?

Bubbles!
I'm a low bottom dope fiend for David Simon/ Ed Burns
I'm afraid Nick's nuked this one right there - hasn't been a better character written on TV, ever, than Bubbles. You'll laugh, you'll cry.
I think I'll have to go back to the full run for an eighth time. If people are still reading War and Peace, I can keep watching The Wire.
As a suggestion, Iain, try the Homicide/ The Corner/ Generation Kill triumvirate of books if you want some more entertainment.
I have done all three back-to-back in the last four weeks and have been knocked out by them, again.
Read Homicide first a couple of years ago, the Corner (first) a couple of months ago (and again last week) and just finished Gen Kill tonight.
It's amazing how true to the books the TV shows are.
Bubbles is a very loosely disguised version of Gary McCullough in The Corner. No spoilers.
Very rewarding.
I just finished last week too...
...after a 9 day blitz while the FPO was away.
Anyway, I'd have to go with Bubbles as well. I was shouting at the TV a few times when he was on the verge of a relapse. You really felt his pain.
