Fiction Plane

What's it called?:
Sparks
What It Sounds Like:
'Sparks', the 3rd and personally best album by rock band Fiction Plane, fronted by lead singer and bass player Joe Sumner (son of Sting), guitarist Seton Daunt and drummer Pete Wilhoit is a parade of intensity, indulgence and ambition. It is not often every song on an album is prominent but this is an example of how to do it. Each song is memorable and glorious both musically and lyrically. A 6 minute track is just as punchy as a 3 minute single. My favourite tracks on the album; 'Two Sparks' and 'Tommy' are hard hitting, dominant rock. 'Denied' to me is unique. The song depending on where you are has such a different impact on how you hear it like lying on grass on a sunny day or walking in rain and 'Angel Eyes' (which is 1 of 3 songs only available on the limited edition) has a chorus so punchy your body cannot resist to move to its rhythm. All the limited edition songs too have rifts and chords that will just engulf your speakers. 'Sparks' is an overwhelming display of precision.
What Does It All "Mean"?:
Since the debut album in 2003, a strong UK fan-base has lacked but do have fame in Holland and Germany. Recording a DVD at the Paradiso where Foo Fighters, Editors and Kaiser Chiefs have played, it is time Fiction Plane got high status in the UK.
Goes well with...:
Many environments depending on the song. Guitar solos and power choruses keep it alive with train/car journeys or out running. Acoustic songs and soft lyrics make it apt at night. They have uplifting or depressing effects leaning on your personality.
Might Suit People Who Like...:
A mix of hard indie rock and some slow but lyrically attractive acoustic tracks. If you've ever heard of indie band We Are Scientists I would compare it to them. A mix of rock, acoustics and fantastic lyrics.

I agree with everything you

I agree with everything you said, Sean. I think 'Sparks' is a brilliant album. After seeing FP at The Mercury Lounge last year where they debuted 'Zero' it was my early favorite, but now I can't picked a favorite. 'Sparks' is very different from LSOTB and while this may turn some people off, I applaud FP for going in this new direction. If this album doesn't get them more attention from the masses, I'm not sure anything will.
