Fear Me, I killed all of them.....

COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Always loved it, always will*

* ok maybe not past Davison in the original series)

9

maybe

Let's hope they've ditched those feckin' awful 'new' Daleks.

They brought them in from

the spin off show "Pimp My Dalek"

I think they have overused the Daleks now any way. Would be nice to have a Dalek-free season.

Other than that, Dr. Who is my favourite utterly non-guilty pleasure. The GLW, kids and I, curled up on a Saturday evening watching. My favourite family event of the week. Bring it on, can't wait.

VincePacket | 31 March 2011 - 7:46pm

Just a great big grin.

That's all.

0
Adman | 31 March 2011 - 7:42pm

Ooooohhhh. I just can't wait.

But why is the 9th/10th Doctor's TARDIS interior in one of the clips (with a-probably not but...-regeneration type light show going on)? Just who is River Song? What/who is Amy shooting? Soooo many questions.

bamthwok | 31 March 2011 - 7:51pm

Oh Jesus.

Jesus. Jesus Christ. I'm so excited.

Tennant seems like a distant, gurning memory. And I liked him at the time.

God, I'm excited.

I'm really excited.

Goosebumps

Actual goosebumps. I don't care what anyone else thinks, I fricken love the new series. Matt Smith is well on the way to replacing Tom Baker as The Doctor.

1
keefus | 31 March 2011 - 8:02pm

yes, but ...

All of these teasers ... they never really add up to anything, do they? All of those little hints of back /future stories just pile up like so much uncollected rubbish.
Smith and Gillan are great, but the standard of writing has dropped significantly.

Sorry ... this is neither the time nor the place to piss on anyone's chips. I'll be watching it and hoping for the best.

Looks superb

Anyone know when it actually starts, other than "soon". Because that's not overly helpful.

0
badger_king | 31 March 2011 - 9:08pm

Easter.

The Saturday, I assume.

0
Bob | 31 March 2011 - 9:11pm

23rd April

I think

0
Gatz | 31 March 2011 - 9:13pm

Good times await!

0
badger_king | 1 April 2011 - 9:21am

Wow! We're not far behind.

The new season starts over here very soon, and I've been lead to believe our local cable TV company is supposed to be adding BBC America HD to their channel line up any day now, which will make a good thing even better.

0
Billybob Dylan | 31 March 2011 - 9:21pm

I think it's about time this chap made a reappearance...

I'm sure they could figure out a way to bring him back somehow.

Kneeel, insect!

0
Patrick Crowther | 31 March 2011 - 9:28pm

Ah

Sutekh. One of my all time faves.

Love the Douglas Adams City of Death as well. That's such a great story.

0
illuminatus | 31 March 2011 - 9:33pm

Abase yourself you grovelling insect!

The only time I really thought Tom Baker had had it.

This terrified me as a child - glory days indeed

0
whitehorsehill | 31 March 2011 - 9:49pm

Yep 23rd April

"Cry 'God for Harry Sullivan, The Brig, and Saint George!'

Apparently the new series will feature a character who we've not seen since 'the War Games'. My guess is Philip Madoc

0
DogFacedBoy | 31 March 2011 - 9:28pm

Sorry to come across as pedantic...

but the *great* Philip Madoc played Solon in The Brain of Morbius.

0
Patrick Crowther | 31 March 2011 - 9:58pm

And The War Lord

in The War Games - it's the character not actor. Rumour has it that Micheal Sheen will play whatever part it is

0
DogFacedBoy | 31 March 2011 - 10:14pm

He was also in the War Games

as the War Lord, and 2 or three other stories over the years.

0
andrew | 31 March 2011 - 10:19pm

And he was also in two

of the greatest comic scenes ever

The 'Don't tell Him Pike' scene from 'Dad's Army' and as Evans who tells the story about sex mad frogs in 'Porridge' - 'no wonder their eyes pop out like that'

0
DogFacedBoy | 31 March 2011 - 10:30pm

Karen Gilllan

Is my new friend on Facebook. Which is nice and made my day.

0
Neil Jung | 31 March 2011 - 9:32pm

But then...

"Fear me, I killed all of them"

what a line.

Like a little kid, I can't wait for Easter Saturday.

0
illuminatus | 31 March 2011 - 9:32pm

*squeals!*

*does a little happy dance*

*grins like an idiot*

I don't like Matt Smith as the Doctor

I thought the last series was disappointing. Fanboys seem to love it and cite Matt Smith as a favourite doctor of all time, but I don't see it.

Still, I'll watch it. I'm going to the launch on Monday so that might give a little more away.

0
Five-Centres | 1 April 2011 - 9:50am

I just LOVE him.

Think he knocks Tennant into a cocked hat, as good as DT was. I always felt the Tennant era was compromised by two things: his own inability to avoid gurning and mugging and generally stretching his face and vowels far too much, and - more crucially - Russellty Davies's even greater inability to avoid throwing the kitchen sink at half the episodes. And the quality of the writing declined hugely in Davies's closing series, only really picking up in the last few minutes of the last Special.

Don't understand DCE's point about the writing. I think the last series was incredibly well-written, apart from the Dalek episode and Amy's Choice. And what loose ends haven't been tied up? Apart from the Silence, that is (which is being resolved this coming series)?

And let's face it - heresy though this might be - the writing and acting was often fucking shocking in the days of the "classic" series. When you remove the nostalgia factor, the old Doctor Whos weren't a patch on what we've seen since 2005 (Freema bloody Agyeman aside).

Thank you all

I really don't feel even half as geeky as I did, now I've seen you all out-geeking me.

I am baffled by anyone who says the writing wasn't up to scratch in the previous series. I was a fan of Russell T Davies, but he had a tendency for pat endings and over-sentimentality. Moffat is an extraordinary story-teller who doesn't favour narrative convention and has a real taste for the genuninely spooky, yet he never forgets he's writing a show for kids. Matt Smith's performance is utterly unique and pitch perfect.

For me, I watched and enjoyed the RTD series as an adult; something about the last one made me feel like I was a kid when I watched it. I can pay no higher compliment.

Uncle Monty | 1 April 2011 - 10:24am

Yes yes.

Thanks for articulating what I think twice as well as me, Monty. :-)

0
Bob | 1 April 2011 - 10:34am

Yes the Dalek episode was bobbins

despite some funny lines and a bit of Churchill (oh yes). Mark Gattis is usually so reliable . Amy's Choice could have done with a little more Toby Jones who was superb.

FC as you don't like it, can I have your ticket to the launch Monday? :-p

0
DogFacedBoy | 1 April 2011 - 10:25am

Didn't say I didn't like it per se, just not as mad on it

as before. The launches are always good fun though.

A friendly recently implored me to explore old Doctor Who and gave the Talons of Weng-Chiang. I must have seen it first time round but I clearly blanked it as it was quite scary for kids. That said, I thought it was load of old tosh. I told him not to give me anymore old series. I'll keep it my memory.

A Series In Two Halves

I'm looking forward to it too.

Apparently the series is going to be split in two, with a cliff-hanger left over the summer. I quite like that idea, the ending of the penultimate episode of the last series was fantastic, but all too quickly resolved.
