Favourite speccies

Olthwaite's picture

Best photo in the latest issue is of Nick Lowe in his thick black specs. They go so well with his white hair.

So who are your favourite spectacle wearers?

For me it's got to be Stephanie Flanders, the best TV/radio economics correspondent.

I'd never really noticed how pretty she was until she wore a fetching pair of glasses during a Budget debate. It's fair to say the hubba indicator rose by 100 per cent to hubba-hubba.

Mrs BP has always worn specs since I've known her

and I've always thought she looks great in them. Other foxy spec wearers? Kate Silverton on BBC Breakfast although I saw her close up once in a gownless evening strap without glasses when she was hosting the British Chipboard Federation Awards or some such and she looked pretty good then too.

A gownless evening strap?

I bet she looked pretty good!

Gownless Evening Strap

A cunning stunt indeed

Stephanie Flanders

Did we all know that her Dad was Michael Flanders (of Flanders and Swann fame)?. Jolly good.

I did!

And did we also know that she is the (semi official) resident host of the UK Bus Awards? Initially as one of the awards commemorates her mother and the contribution she made to accessible bus transport, now she's made the gig her own?
She does make the whole show very worthwhile attending. Quite a sharp cookie, he says, in a "desperately trying not to be patronising because she could out think me in the time it takes me to type my name" kind of way.
Not that the UK Bus Awards aren't worth going to anyway etc etc.

I'll get my coat.

Bonus

She's also a cyclist, which also scores highly with me. She'll be thrilled about that, I expect.

I adore women with glasses

walking slowly, sensually towards me through the bar of a crowded Pub as it means they've got a round in.

Tina Fey

Say no more...

1
Grant | 9 September 2011 - 5:40pm

Ahhhhhh, Tina Fey.

She's wonderful. Very high up on my girl crush list.

Hannah | 9 September 2011 - 5:59pm

Never been much of a Kylie admirer

But she did look pretty hot during this period.

Brookster | 9 September 2011 - 5:59pm

And does any Word reader dare

admit a secret crush on Sarah Palin?

1
Brookster | 9 September 2011 - 6:00pm

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin,

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin, maybe.

Wow!

There aren't any like that in my local Waterstone's.

0
Inky Fingers | 9 September 2011 - 9:15pm

Once i was told that...

...girls who work in Waterstone's had to carry a shitty stick to repel the large numbers of bookish men who see them as well sexy and ask them, like, out, y'know, for a coffee, like at Starbucks, or something, to talk about, not anything bad, but, y'know, literature [sigh] ...
Since Waterstone's switched to purple T-shirts with marketing slogans, the shitty stick has not been needed

It has to be Edna.

Nick Robinson...

...visited my local leisure centre with his family a couple of years ago. He was instantly recognisable as he kept his specs on in the pool!

minibreakfast | 9 September 2011 - 8:54pm

I *love* slightly nerdy speccy girls.

There aren't that many speccy slebs that I can think of, sadly.

1
Bob | 9 September 2011 - 9:04pm

Space

The female of the speccies is more deadly than the male.

2
Tom | 9 September 2011 - 9:13pm

It's Jonathan Meades as top

It's Jonathan Meades as top specs wearer, for me. I gather they're due to medical need, but as a dramatic prop his coloured glasses work tremendously well.
