MrRadio's picture

Which are your favourite beatles influenced songs here is one of mine

Woodface

This Crowded House album seemed more Beatlesque than any of their others and was commercially their most successful. Coincidence?

Spin My Wheels

Cotton Mather

Something About The Beatles

by a band often referred to as the West Country Beatles = Stackridge (Korgis). Guitarist Andy Davis did play on the Imagine LP too...

bargepole rather

obviously mentions the entire canon of jeff lynne's post 'move' works, and asks 'ELO',is it time for a frank and indeed favourable reassessment of their output?

OK - Telephone Line I'll give you that one.

Actually, on second thoughts scrub that too

Do the Rutles count?

If not, here is a vote for a rather charming Swedish one hit wonder (no girls though, sorry):

The singer was later on Stars In Their Eyes doing Ray Davies.

Titles

The lyrics of 'Titles' by Barclay James Harvest off the 'Time Honoured Ghosts' album is made up from Beatles song titles. Check it out.

XTC's Skylarking includes

my favourite beatlesesque songs...
the three songs around the theme of marriage and relationships done in the style of each individual "songwrting" Beatle.

Earn enough for us = McCartney
Big Day = Harrison
Another Satellit = Lennon.

makes me smile every time.

well done XTC!

Anyone remember this classic from yesteryear?

Bourgeois Tagg - I Don't Mind At All

It was from 1988 & produced by Todd R. Utopia made an entire album called Deface The Music aping all the various Beatle music types. I can only find this example on Spotify...

Utopia – I Just Want To Touch You - LP Version: http://open.spotify.com/track/1ptCnuasRser9KmZqSIAeo

Now See the Tagg

I've only just noticed that the Bourgeois Tagg video won't embed. Here's a tv performance.

A couple mentioned on other recent threads...

Tears for Fears - Sowing the Seeds of Love
George Michael - Praying for Time

Both 'tunes', as I believe is the common parlance.

I was looking for this ...

Crowded House at their most Beatle-esque

But I also found this ... I hope that wherever she is she got some help (or an Arts Council Grant)

Mr Costello's most blatant Beatles moment

With apologies for the dodgy video.

The Apples In Stereo...

...Strawberryfire.

0
doomah | 5 September 2009 - 11:37am

Some more...

Track 4 in particular on this one...

And a couple that I couldn't find links for...

The Lovetones - This Is Why You Love Me
Julian Lennon - Saltwater (Cheeky!)

Rain Parade

Whilst I'd agree it's a great song, I don't see the Beatles in it, apart from a little bit of Strawberry Fields perhaps.

0
Neil Jung | 5 September 2009 - 5:09pm

A bit like this, maybe?

0
doomah | 5 September 2009 - 6:06pm

Oh yes

That's pretty good. I predict great things for them.

0
Neil Jung | 6 September 2009 - 10:49pm
Ola Claesson | 21 September 2009 - 10:53pm

More solo McCartney than Beatles, but...

It's still a great song.

0
billyous | 21 September 2009 - 10:59pm

Ride

Their early stuff sounded like Shoegaze Beatles, like My Beatles Valentine

Pink Floyd - The Scarecrow, sounds kind of like a lost '67 Lennon/McCartney song
